What character did you hate

Post by mystmaiden »

We all fessed up to our favorites..who did you dislike?

This is one I'm going to need to give some thought, though Findail comes to mind. He has a couple of 'moments' beyond that, he set my teeth on edge. Somehow, I can't name Foul as one my dislikes, hes just too pivotal to the story.

I hated the Ravers. Lord Foul I sort of grudgingly respected as the mastermind behind the scenes, but I hated those damned Ravers for all the butchery they've committed throughout the history of the Land (starting from before Lord Foul ever showed up).

I hated Chant, that jerk of an Elohim who insulted and demeaned Covenant when they got to Elemesnedene. (Yay, danlo hates Chant, too!) I hated Findail at first, but I eventually felt pity for him.

I hated Santonin na-Mhoram-in of the Clave, Gibbon's right hand man. And I hate Gibbon, of course (though this goes right back to the Ravers, since he was controlled by one.)

Beyond these ones that I unambiguously hate, it gets complicated. Sure, there are moments in the books when people like Linden, or Covenant, or the Haruchai, or the Ramen, or Hile Troy annoy with their individual bullheadedness...but I could never hate them.

I really hated Eremis. He'd no reason to do the stuff he did, other than he could. He'd nothing driving him only his own arrogance, really.

Well if this was the Mordant's Need forum, where I also moderate (I know it's confusing.. 8) ) I would tend to agree, even though I hate the Armigritte more...

I'm with Matrixman in saying the Ravers. They seem to be every bit as evil as Foul, and possibly quite a bit more vicious.

Arghghghghgh. Not so used to Forums of Any description. Forgive the schoolboy (girl) error. Sigh.

I didn't like Pietten. I know he'd been corrupted, but all the same...

I think that if Lord Foul hadn't kept a tight leash on them, the Ravers on their own would have committed even more crimes in the Land than they have already (if the Forestals didn't catch them first).

Pietten...a very tragic character. He's not a likeable person in TPTP, that's for sure...

The Elder Pietten.

I never could stand Hile Troy. I never understood why, but there was something about him that made me hate reading any part about him. I wanted to get back to Covenant, not hear about whatever Troy was doing.
Bannor: It's okay. I swore the Unbreakable Cow once.

Covenant: Did you turn it into the Unbreakable Steak?

Bannor: That's just Corruption.

Covenant: No, it'd be Corruption if you turned it into the Unbreakable Green Thing In The Fridge.

Well, if truth be told, I really can't stand Hile Troy, and I can't tell you why because I don't know. Maybe because he never had the guts to tell Elena how nuts he was about her.

The Kemper of Brathairealm. Now there was someone who couldn't wrap his head round anything beyond his own self interest!
Quin, suffering from total amnesia, slowly discovers himself possessed of inexplicable abilities as his world expands...

Hang on a minute ... you guys are listing all the best characters!

IMO, liking/hating a character is not the same as liking/hating a person. Is it?

Kasreyn: Bad Guy. Great Character. I love reading that part!

Pietten: Tragic Figure. Great Character. Who hasn't said "Pah!" on occasion?

Frankly, SRD doesn't have many characters that are unenjoyable.

I never could get into Davies Hyland. Also, I think in comparison to Myste, Elega was pretty flat and uninspired. Gilbur was pretty lame for a bad guy. In Chronicles, I cannot think of any one I really disliked as a character. Gibbon, maybe.

Hmm...from point of view of least enjoyable character then, as opposed to the most [boo, hiss] hateful one...

Possibly Lord Trevor. Never really saw the point of that loser. Very bland & inoffensive, and not all that powerful. Didn't inspire me at all!

Always thought Manethrall Rue laid on the self pity & martyr thing a bit much too.
Quin, suffering from total amnesia, slowly discovers himself possessed of inexplicable abilities as his world expands...

Linden Avery, I've never quite liked her... she's so... bland or something like that. Just thought she was a bit of a bane to the series, like she was thrown in for the second one and now seems to be dominating things. It's the chronicles of THOMAS COVENANT, and she has more airtime :p

The biggest loser of all: Elena. I'd like to open a can of wuppass on her. Stupid git! Very well written.

 Awww...You don't like Elena, Fist? Okay, okay, she kinda backed the Bloodguard into a tight spot up there on Rivenrock, forcing them to choose their loyalties. I acknowledge that wasn't very nice of her... :P
