They deserve a special place in Hell

Post by onewyteduck »

I've skimmed through Vespers and don't see a thread regarding really bad covers. If one exists, I'll start off by apologizing for dredging up an old topic.

I'm mainly posting this because I went to bed last night really pissed! Was watching SNL and their "musical" (yeah, right!) guest, Scissor something or something Scissor was SQUEAKING AND SCREECHING out a cover of Comfortably Numb. I am still in shock over these Bozos.....they should be tarred and feathered or drawn and quartered....SOMETHING!

May they be stricken with permanent vocal cord numbness! That would teach 'em. :x :x :x :x :x :x

Anyway, now that I've got that off my chest, are there any covers out there that any of you feel the same way about?

Sheryl Crow - Sweet Child o' Mine
Tori Amos - Smells Like Teen Spirit (though her covers are usually pretty good)
Rammstein - Stripped (from the Depeche Mode tribute album. couldn't stop laughing)
Madonna - American Pie

LM, thank you. I live in a radio wasteland. Somtimes, that isn't a bad thing!

Whoever covered "Boys of Summer" a few years ago gets the chipper/shredder. Whoever juct covered Queen's "Under Pressure" goes in feet first.

That was the Atari's and I agree with you completely. Was going to add that one in anyway. Also, Bananarama's butcher job of Venus and Lenny Kravitz' cover of American Woman. They all pop immediatly into mind.

Faith Hill : Take Another Piece of My Heart. she takes away all of the anger and passion.

Brady Kids : American Pie. though it is surreal to hear the Brady Kids singing the words Helter Skelter and Satan.

GNR - Live and Let Die. They DESTROYED the Paul McCartney song.
and Knockin' On Heaven's Door with the "Hey-hey-hey-yeah".
Not to get me wrong, I like Guns N Roses, but they should have not done cover tunes.
Have you hugged your arghule today?

"Live and Let Die" really didn't annoy me that much. It's pretty much a straight reading of the Wings version, with guitar replacing the horns.

But "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" was Gawdawful.

Then there's Kelly Osbourne's version of "Changes".

Never cared for the original Live and Let Die, so the remake was an improvement in my book (lucky Foul's not around; he'd kill me). Read somewhere that that was the number one covered song of all time. Knockin' on Heaven's Door is a very good GnR song. It fits perfectly into the album and is completely fitting to their style. That said, it's not a good cover.

'Knockin' On Heaven's Door' is a brilliant song.

But it's not a 'Guns And Roses song'. And it doesn't fit their style, because it's not commercial crap.

The only album it 'fits perfectly into' is Dylan's 'Pat Garrett & Billy The Kid'.

Too bad I couldn't avoid that pointless cover of Boys of Summer. One of my favorite 80's songs butchered...

Didn't she also make a tru ly horrid cover of a Rolling Stones song? :? Maybe Satisfaction? I seem to vaguely remember it, but I think that my brain has mercifully blocked out most of the details. :P
