Soundtrack Lyrics

Post by lucimay »

i'm not certain this will fly nor if there's an existing thread but i'm gonna give it a shot... walkin around North Beach this evening i was listening to this song and thinking about how well Zach Braff used the music in his soundtrack to punctuate scenes in the movie...and continued thinking maybe that would be a good lyric topic.

post the song lyrics to a well placed song from any film you liked and tell what was happening in the scene
i'mmunna go first since i had the idea :)

The Song is The Only Livin Boy in New York paul simon
this is where zach braff and ian holm as his father have a weird encounter
it nicely punctuated zach's numbness

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know your part’ll go fine.
Fly down to mexico.
Doatun do doe, doatun do doe and here I am,
The only living boy in new york.
I get the news I need on the weather report.
I can gather all the news I need on the weather report.
Hey, I’ve got nothing to do today but smile.
Doatu do doe, doatun do doe and here I am,
The only living boy in new york

Half of the time we’re gone but we don’t know where,
And we don’t know here

Tom, get your plane right on time.
I know you’ve been eager to fly now.
Hey let your honesty shine, shine, shine
Doatu do doe, doatun do doe,
Like it shines on me
The only living boy in new york,
The only living boy in new york.

whattya think? will this fly as a topic?
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?
~ alan bates, the mothman prophecies

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

i don't care...i can play by myself

Wise Up--Aimee Mann
from Magnolia
the scene where everybody sings

It's not
What you thought
When you first began it
You got
What you want
Now you can hardly stand it though,
By now you know
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up

You're sure
There's a cure
And you have finally found it
You think
One drink
Will shrink you 'til you're underground
And living down
But it's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up

Prepare a list of what you need
Before you sign away the deed
'Cause it's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
It's not going to stop
'Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
'Til you wise up
No, it's not going to stop
So just...give up
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?
~ alan bates, the mothman prophecies

Yey, another soundtrack fan! I'm more into instrumentals, myself but here's one:

My Best Friend's Wedding, the cast version of "I Say a Little Prayer," and a way better description than I could do from users.aol.com/aleong1631/mybest.html:
A little further on, while George is pretending to be Julianne's fiancee and telling how 'they first met', he breaks out into a rendition of Dionne Warwick's "I Say a Little Prayer". He is soon joined by a chorus of Michael's and Kimmy's relatives, seated around the same table. The merriment then spreads to the rest of the restaurant in which they are eating, and soon the entire restaurant is singing along. In fact, in the theater where I saw MBFW, the energy of this scene was so infectious that half the audience started to clap and sing along to this musical number.
From the moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little prayer for you..
While combing my hair now
And wond'ring what dress to wear now
I say a little prayer for you...

[Chorus:]
Forever, and ever, you'll stay in my heart, and I'll love you
Forever, and ever, we never will part, oh I love you
Together, forever, that's how it should be
Living without you
Would only mean heartbreak for me...

I run for the bus dear, while riding I think of us dear,
I say a lil prayer for you
At work I just take time, and all through my coffee break time
I say a lil prayer for you...

[Chorus]

My darling believe me
For me there is no one but you
Say you love me too...

[Chorus]
"We probably could have saved ourselves, but we were too damned lazy to try very hard... and too damn cheap." - Kurt Vonnegut

"Now if you remember all great paintings have an element of tragedy to them. Uh, for instance if you remember from last week, the unicorn was stuck on the aircraft carrier and couldn't get off. That was very sad. " - Kids in the Hall

(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace, Love And Understanding
As I walk through
This wicked world
Searchin' for light in the darkness of insanity.
I ask myself
Is all hope lost?
Is there only pain and hatred, and misery?

And each time I feel like this inside,
There's one thing I wanna know:
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?

And as I walked on
Through troubled times
My spirit gets so downhearted sometimes
So where are the strong
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?

So where are the strong?
And who are the trusted?
And where is the harmony?
Sweet harmony.

'Cause each time I feel it slippin' away, just makes me wanna cry.
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding? Ohhhh
What's so funny 'bout peace love & understanding?

two movies actually.

in Floundering, at the conclusion of the movie the entire sact is seen on a bridge, singing this song. find this movie!

in Lost In Translation, when Scarlett and Bill are at the karaoke bar, Bill sings this.

both are great versions of a great song.

Oh, no, Lucimay...you had to bring up Magnolia...the horror...!

It's okay, I'm taking deep breaths now, counting to ten...

(Explanation: Magnolia was one of the most excruciating moviegoing experiences of my life. Nearly walked out on the film, but I endured it out of masochistic pride. Ah, well, to each their own, eh?)

Um, like Alynna, I'm more into instrumental soundtracks. Well, all the song sequences from Chicago were pretty fabulous, but maybe movie musicals are too obvious for what you had in mind for this topic. Anyway, I suck at recalling lyrics because I tend to focus much more on the music than the words in almost any song I listen to.

However, I love Lost In Translation! Great movie, sgtnull! 8)

we should just change the name of the thread to Soundtracks cause i like soundtracks in general...The Mission soundtrack has always been one of my very favorites and i also own several Thomas Newman soundtracks, Pay It Forward the best of those.
so i say NO LYRICS NECESSARY to post in this thread, there's too many good soundtracks to talk about!!

I am one of those people who hates movie soundtracks that have lyrics. I much prefer an instrumental soundtrack. Having said that, a movie that uses the soundtrack as part of the onscreen 'action'(such as Bill Murray singing kareoke in 'Lost in Translation' or the group of diners in 'My Best Friend's Wedding') ... this is fine. But I find vocal tracks on 'background' music really annoying. The best soundtracks (in my humble opinion) are the ones that compliment the visuals without making you aware of them.
Although not the best movie, one of the best examples is the soundtrack to the movie 'Last Man Standing'. wow, excellent raw stuff that perfectly fit the mood and action of the movie. (too bad it wasn't a better movie...)

one of my favorite soundtracks!!!!

favorite song from THAT soundtrack
Summer nights and long warm days
are stolen as the old moon falls
my mirror shows another face
another place to hide it all
sleeping with a full moon blanket
sand and feathers for my head
dreams have never been my answer
dreams have never been my bed
now i wanna cry about the storm
but you can't grow feathers in the rain
and this naked floor is cold as you
this naked floor remains
and i'm lost, behind
the words i’ll never find
and i'm left behind
as seasons roll on by
would you crawl into my world
and take me worlds away
should i be beside myself
i might even stay

Seasons-chris cornell

Free World - martin sexton

I've been stemmin' for change and singing in these streets now
Long as I care to recall
The dank little lounge room in the Roosevelt hotel
My idea of a holiday
Every once in a while
A little old light shines through my tunnel
So I follow it like a moth flies to the flame.

And just when I think I got my world by the balls
I find I'm dancin' in the light again
Dancing in the light
Of a speeding freight train
Singing it's hard
Living in the free world
Getting saved by the bell
People find my company
To be strange as hell

Looking back on aspirations and dreams
My father he had in mind for me
Moon lights the tracks and broken glass as I recall
Those plans I left so far behind
And I know it's better off he never saw me this way
He always told me don't let the devil have his due
And I know my father would turn over in his grave

To see me hog tied to the chain
Or dancing in the light
Of a speeding freight train

Singing it's hard
Living in the free world
Getting saved by the bell
People find my company
To be strange as hell

And its only getting harder in this free world
With all this strugglin g and strain
People find my sweet peace of mind
In the pouring rain

As the storm moves in ain't no friends to be found
So I sit 'neath this dream and bridge for a while
And it seems that my mind is in pieces on the ground

Singing it's hard
Living in the free world
Getting saved by the bell
Mostly find my Jesus
In the pouring rain
I'm living in the free world
you're more advanced than a cockroach,

so many songs...so few threads...heh.

the only annie lenox i can listen too...her cover of neil for american beauty...

...Cold wind ripping down the allay at dawn
And the morning paper flies,
Dead man lying by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes.

Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning,
Find someone who's turning
And you will come around.
