Renaissance Festival Attendees

Post by Alynna Lis Eachann »

I have to share this...

Jay and I went to the last day of the Maryland Renaissance Festival on Sunday. We saw:

-several Storm Troopers
-a pilot from one of the Star Wars spacecraft
-a Ghostbuster
-three or four Johnny Depp/Captain Sparrow impersonators (one of whom looked very much the part)
-a cross between the Black Knight and Darth Vader (black armor and cloak, medieval helmet, cardboard control panel on his chest)
-several people in top hats
-two guys in full (plastic) armor with arrows sticking out of their chests
-a parade of people in skull masks
-a couple of GI Joe wannabes
-a German WWI soldier
-a Russian WWII solider

The last two, my mother says, were part of the show... Because apparently the Renaissance ran straight through 1945.

Last week, at the same place, I saw:

-the Bud Knight (armor made of Bud Light cans)
-a full furry animal costume, with giant feet, that had nothing to do with the Renaissance and somewhat resembled Crash Bandicoot
-the good Johnny Depp/Captain Sparrow impersonator

This does not include all the people who show up with fairy wings, horns, dressed like wizards, or wearing costumes that actually match the theme of the place. I felt half-embarrased being dressed like normal.

Hahaha... Those Storm Troopers are still cracking me up. Best... costumes at a Renaissance Festival... Ever...

I still want to know what the skull people were all about, heh.

Oh, and you forgot the dude in the Uncle Sam hat.

Yeah, that Renn Faire was great. A lot of fun. :D

Hehe, next year, if we don't get that Thomas Covenant group together, we totally need to go as some random anime characters. I'd so go as Vash the Stampede or Inuyasha. Who cares about that whole "Renaissance" theme, heh.

Hey, you finally passed me in post count, you bum. :( :P ;) -jay

(I could go for some more of that Killer Bee honey right about now...heh.)

Maybe they got lost on their way to the comic book festival......

I've seen this before at Ren Fest here in Texas, too. I don't get it. Someone needs to tell these people that whateverCON and the Reniessance are not one in the same.

I'm not sure people can be criticised for not dressing in 'rennaisance' style, as the outfits at traditional Renn Fairs appear to be based on a period 100-200 years after the Rennaisance. :?
Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

This fair does the life of Henry VIII, and the dress can run a couple hundred years in either direction, but I think Star Wars really is stretching it a bit.

He's got you there, heh.

Personally, I don't mind too much. It's hilarious when you see a Storm Trooper walking around with a turkey leg. A little strange (ok, really strange), but hilarious.-jay

At the one here, people either dress in (somewhat  ) time appropriate costumes, or regular street clothes. I would love to see Star Wars costumes. That would be a hoot!

The second year I was working
the Bay Area Rennaisance Festival,
the "Scottish" bagpipers were known to play the
Star Wars theme every once in a while
during the Human Chess Match...
and it sounded quite good too.
Have you hugged your arghule today?
