So how did TC get to Vespers?

Post by Nav »

Upon re-reading Lord Foul's Bane, something struck me as rather odd. When Covenant meets Mhoram for the first time and the two of them set off for Vespers with Bannor, TC stops and refuses to cross the wooden walkway from the tower to the keep on account of his vertigo. Mhoram says he knows another way, but as I understand it there is no other way.

We're told that the keep of Revelstone can be quickly isolated from the tower by cutting down the walkways and the fact that the ur-Viles tried to climb in via the coigns of the keep suggests that there is no way into the keep apart from via the walkways. Maybe there was an enclosed walkway that Covenant would have felt more comfortable crossing, but it wasn't mentioned.

I wonder if Mhoram resorted to clandestine means to get Covenant to Vespers:

TC: "I ain't gettin' on no walkway, foo'!"
LM: "It's alright, I know another way. In the meantime you should drink this glass of milk that has not been tampered with in any way."
Q. Why do Communists drink herbal tea?
A. Because proper tea is theft.

I can't remember exactly (even though I have literally just finished LFB) but I think Mhoram took Covenant down to the base of the tower and walked him through the first set of gates (I think there was a passage describing it which said this and stating that the gates were open but could be closed sealing off the tower) and throughthe courtyard where the Gilden tree was.

I'm pretty sure it said that they went across the courtyard at ground level.

quote from LFB: "sweating half in relief, Covenant followed as Mhoram retraced part of their way, then led a complex descent to one of the doors at the base of the tower. There they crossed the courtyard. Then for the first time Covenant was in the main body of Revelstone."

hope this answers your query! :D
