There is no definitive answer; in mordor probably Sauron, in The Land probably the Despiser. But anywhere else, my money is on Satan.
Sauron and Foul are simply the top dogs in their own worlds. They don't cross into other worlds. Satan, for example, appears as the villain in various different genres and situations. You won't ever get an original screenplay about Sauron or Foul, but The Devil transcends copyright problems!
Yep, Satan is simply in a different league. He is the number one villain of all time by virtue of his all encompassing scope. He's The Daddy.

as does Sauron.
and Lord Foul.
Satan is defeated by the ressurected Christ.
Sauron by a furry hobbit.
Foul by an impotent leper.
going by strength of schedule, Satan.
Except that Jesus, Frodo and TC aren't fighting in this death match.
Foul , Satan and Sauron seem pretty close as far use of powers go.
Manipulators all of them.
Sauron and Foul both direct thier forces to engage in physical battles against enemies.
Satan...what the hell does Satan do anyway?
So based on what I know, Satan turns into a snake and them Sauron rips him apart.
Satan OUT.
Foul vs Sauron.
I'm giving it to Sauron.
Sauron is just more of a badass.
10 or more Foul Creche's could fit in Mordor....
Nazgul would be proof against Ravers....
It's a tough call though.

Sauron was a mere servant of Morgoth, and one of much lesser power; and Tolkien pretty much modelled Morgoth on Satan.
So Sauron probably equates to Beelzebub or Balor rather than to Satan.
Also, Sauron was pretty bad when it came to one on one fighting. As I recall, wasn't he beaten by a girl and by a dog? And then, later, he was beaten by a poxy elflord and a king.

Tough one. Foul's battle with TC in PTP was the best fantasy battle I've ever read about. But I'd love to know more about the final battle between Sauron and Gil Galad and Elendil, I bet that was a cracker.sgtnull wrote:who has the best ending battle?
As for Satan, I suppose the question is: Which battle are we talking about? He's been in so many. One particulary good one was with Arnold Schwartnigger in End of Days. And there was that superb confrontation with the Time Bandits...

Well, now--Satan fought God and lived to tell the tale.
In effect, so did Lord Foul.
Sauron, on the other hand, was killed by an army of elves and men.
So it is down to Satan vs. Foul for me. And I'm going to say Satan because Foul was diminished as a direct result of the Ritual of Desecration.

Plus Sauron is only a trumped up underling (who has a finite number of lives). It's between Foul and Satan, and I'd say Foul has the edge. Look at Foul vs Covenant and Satan vs Job. Covenant gets a lot more messed up internally than Job does. A few millenia and I'm thinking Satan is Foul's b****. (really, it becomes a question of God's intervention, since we know the Creator won't intervene.)
Now how about Dios vs Odin?

"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”
