Great Driving Songs

Post by Lorelei »

I was driving to work today with my windows and sunroof open with Steve Miller's "Keep on Rockin' Me" blaring on the radio........

Certain songs just seem better heard in the car going 65 miles an hour. Anybody else feel the same?

i'll take the entire Jeff Beck Wired, the Golden Earring, and add JB's Running on Empty and Chris Whitley's Weightless.

Windfall Lyrics By Son Volt
Printable version of Windfall Lyrics By Son Volt
Now and then it keeps you running
It never seems to die
The trail's spent with fear
Not enough living on the outside
Never seem to get far enough
Staying in between the lines
Hold on to what you can
Waiting for the end
Not knowing when
May the wind take your troubles away
May the wind take your troubles away
Both feet on the floor, two hands on the wheel,
May the wind take your troubles away
Trying to make it far enough, to the next time zone
Few and far between past the midnight hour
Never feel alone, you're really not alone...
Switching it over to AM
Searching for a truer sound
Can't recall the call letters
Steel guitar and settle down
Catching an all-night station somewhere in Louisiana
It sounds like 1963, but for now it sounds like heaven
May the wind take your troubles away
May the wind take your troubles away
Both feet on the floor, two hands on the wheel,
May the wind take your troubles away.

My old work used to have a CD player, so I made up a few CD's to listen to at various time in the day.

In the Morning; driving through rush hours, and dtrying to park and get the rushes off, I listened to more laid back stuff: Bob Dylan, Bob Marly, Muddy waters, Sloan, the Strokes, Greatfull Dead, the Pouges, Spirit of the West.

Later in the day between three and five in the afternoon, when the real drive ws on to get everything done; I had a real agressive CD with Beastie Boys; Iron Maiden, the Offspring; Soundgarden and Social Distortion.

I love to sing along when I'm driving, but driving all day, it can be embaracing when pepple se you; this one time I noticed a carfull of chicks pointing and laughing as I sang onlong and played the drums to American Pie...since then I've become pretty good at Vantrilliquism singing.
I thought you were a ripe grape
a cabernet sauvignon
a bottle in the cellar
the kind you keep for a really long time

But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

Full of the heavens and time.
