New thoughts..are they possible?

Post by Dag son of Dag »

Just wanted to hear your opinions on this...In Crime and Punishment, this guy (Raskolnikov) argues that only a very, very small part of humanity are capable of thinking new thoughts, and the rest of us are pretty much all alike in the way we think.

Do you mean Raskolnikov or me? :) Actually, he`s quite humble..he says that such thoughts have been uttered before.

Since no two people have exactly the same brains, no two people are going to have exactly the same thoughts. Similar thoughts, maybe, but every person's every thought will be unique in some tiny way.

Didn't Raskolnikov try to commit the perfect murder? It's been many years since I read Crime and Punishment. :?

Yep, I think you're right...but it's been years for me, too. Haven't read that since college. :?

Yeah, he had studied a lot into crime and the mind of the criminal, and so he thought he could commit a perfect murder. Naturally, he freaked. :D
