Re: Theory on Elohim and Waynhim/ur-viles
Waynhim and ur-viles cannot physically see, which means they have to perceive the world around them differently, which could be why the laws are different for them. I'll never get that one. If Laws are external to you, then why would a law care if you can see or not? And if they are internal to you...

Had I been High Lord Berek, Damelon, Loric, or Kevin, that is what I would have attempted to do. I wouldn't expect any of the old Lords to do anything like that. It seems like a certain kind of manipulation. Not sure what the right words are, but I think that the old Lords would have thought that t...

When do posts about Runes stop becoming spoilers?
I mean, a post that mentions how LFB ends isn't a spoiler. How long does it have to be out before talking about it isn't 'spoiling' it?

Re: Fascinating
I suspect a warning shot has been fired across the Conservatives bow on the matter. We'll see if they got the message. Some haven't so far. The "bork" issue is all about,,with no aknowledgement that ' borking" was going on long before Bork came along. There has been a long tradition ...

I don't know about you, but the last thing in the world I want is the law codifying morality . Morality is up to me, thank you very much. I wouldn't want a 200+ year old document trying to tell me what's morally right. That's why we have our three branches of government. It's cliche, but it's true;...

Slightly off topic... First, I really enjoyed the book. Second, I was surprised at how little time it took me to get frustrated and angry with Linden. She knows she is in the Land, she is familiar with the territory, she knows it has been 3500 years since she was there. Yet she has the patience of a...

I made an earlier comment about 'natural'... My point was that 'natural' isn't a very good argument. If you need to caveat your argument, you need a new argument. I'm not saying that you are ultimately wrong, but out of intellectual honesty, I'm asking you to do better than that. Also, if I'm eating...

Not going to say how I feel about the topless issue (more specifically, breastfeeding in public), but I have a problem with the 'it is natural' argument. So is urinating. So is picking my nose. Or worse, my dingleberries. Cleaning toe jam. Number 2. Sexual Intercourse. Eating ear wax. Etc. Etc. &quo...

Re: Laws are pretty wussy
My only point is that, Elena did not suspend the Law of Death (just for Kevin), she "broke" the Law of Death, literally, in the sense that the Law of Death doesn't work well anymore. Actually, that appears to be the case. Time certainly seems to be just a little bit broken. Since the Law ...

Re: Laws are pretty wussy
As I tried to point out, SRD's Laws are never broken that way. They are not suspended; they are altered. So this analogy doesn't hold up - you break the speed limit, but the Law remains. A better analogy would be "You could apply some power (take a case to the State Court) and have the speed l...

Re: Laws are pretty wussy
I like this discussion of 'law'. I think SRD is playing a little fast and loose with us. Look at it this way... the speed limit is not a law. It is a guideline. You can apply some power (get an 8 cylinder car) and you can break the speedlimit. The law of universal gravitation is a law. The force bet...

Laws are pretty wussy
Is it just me, or are the Laws of the Earth not very good laws. If the Law says "You can't do something" but you can do it, then the Law isn't very powerful. To Donaldson, they are more like the Suggestions of the Earth. "You shouldn't bring people back from the dead", not "...
