Does Burma, China or Austria ring any bells here?

Hi all, it's been a while since I was on the Watch, and I'm shocked, stunned and disappointed to find absolutely Nada about what I consider to be some absolutely huge recent news all around the world...the Burma Cyclone, the Chinese earthquake, that girl locked up in an Austrian cellar by her father...

Doesn't it bother you guys that your presidents have become like Kings? They find their way into power according to who they are (famiy) rather then their merit.

With all the respect and goodwill in the world - doesn't that bother you? :)

Billie Piper's portrayal of Rose was superb, but I think the character is overrated. She was like an Eastenders character -'Yew say one wowd agaynst moi faaaahmly...' Rose Tyler was such a chav. How dare the new team of writers have the good Doctor fall for a chav. Tsk. :) Now Martha, she's c...

Nice!

If I had a criticism about this stuff, though, is that it's easy to pass off all these paradoxes & contradictions as a convenient philosophical cop out. I mean - how can you argue with a viewpoint that claims both a point of view AND its opposite?

Clever bugger, that Lao Tse. :)

Lord Foul wrote: I read the Tao Te Ching, the main Taoism text. This is a big favourite of mine. Like the Chronicles, it has paradox at it's heart, and I just love a good paradox! The Tao Te Ching never ceases to amaze me, and I return to it often. No matter what insights I glean from life due to my...

Good post Chuchichastli. Long time no see. Thanks Avatar! Been moving house & suchlike... And yeah, Prebe, that's a good way of explaining some of my unease about the quiz. Like many, I try to read up as much and as broadly as I have time for on these issues, but my level of expertise...

Perhaps not, but like Avatar I came away from it with a feeling it was created by someone with a less-than environmentally sympathetic agenda. (Shrugs...) maybe I'm the one with a chip on my shoulder. But I can't help but feel that there are already more than enough people out there who would lap up...

 Not exactly dissing the quiz, Cail. It seems factually sound to my tiny mind. I'm just of the opinion that it's another get out of jail free card. CO2 emissions are just one of many issues around the post-industrial human impact on planet Earth. Can we so glibly escape any culpability for the ...

Enya's a terrific composer. The Celts is indeed her earliest release - in fact, it was originally released as a BBC theme tunes tape for a 1980s documentary of the same name. She recorded it as a virtual unknown (particularly outside of Ireland) and in my opinion, it's her best and least commercial ...

Great! Nothing to worry about then. Best incentive I've ever seen for taking no responsibility whatsoever for planet Earth. Might even start breathing directly from my own car's exhaust seeing as how our input is so negligable. I'm totally convinced. ;) 9/10. But that's because I've come across such...

Would be interesting to see how this one pans out, guys...if the Scots do get independance, and it doesn't turn out to be the self-inflicted disaster so many English believe it would be, it could well boost support for Plaid Cymru...as it is, they're making (modest) gains too.

Good luck! :)
