Ragnarok

Guys, the introduction to The Real Story has a huge section on how the Gap stories related to Wagnerien takes on Norse mythos. But as I read that intro, I was amazed how much of it seemed to also relate to Thomas Covenant and this series. Read it again. I'm going to. I think he's plumbing this again...

Re: Question about Chron Novels (possible spoilers!)

TOT, were there only minor (not outstanding MBI) moments? Or is there something I'm forgetting? I'd say Covenant coming out of his stasis, speaking Nom's name, and then defeating the Sandgorgon and releasing it, to telling effect, qualifies as an MBI. I was going to say this myself. I mean, think a...

Covenant used the obviously insequential memories of his past as part of the Arch that seemed to have no clear relation to the present as some means to not only re-anchor himself to his present, but also to heal the fragments of his mind. Dare I say that his unbelief in both instances served to sim...

The little things like this make me wonder about the bigger problems with the book. When it started going, it went pretty fast in places. But man, it dragged. I think the constant reintroduction of new characters, here in the third book of a "quadrilogy" which is in itself the third series...

Perhaps he never made a try for the white gold before because it never existed before Thomas Covenant had leprosy. Sure, there's tons of the stuff in the "real world." But remember also, that Covenant IS the white wild magic gold. White gold, if you buy Kaseryn's argument, is great because...

Speaking of Infelice, one wonders why she doesn't just show up, say, "Hey, Linden, gimme the staff a second, and I'll get your son." Then when Linden gives it up, torches her. It's like, gosh. They are like the Joker. I've captured Batman, so I'm going to tie him and Robin to this giant yo...

I had a feeling there might be something like that going on as well.
But when we get the reveal, well. Just did nothing for me.
Maybe when I reread. Hope so.

On a side note...out of the blue, I heard recently some one talking about Teddy Roosevelt..the man with the Big Stick, bully pulpit,,rough riders,,all that. But when he learned of his favorite sons death in WW1..he was forever changed, and never fully recovered from that loss. So..imho..that Galt w...

I'm not a Linden hater by any stretch. But say she doesn't whine in this book particularly is a bit odd.

Revelation that did basically nothing for me

That Galt was Stave's son. I mean, OK? There is just too much of this in the series. The details that come out. It might lead some poignancy to what comes after, and maybe when you reread from the beginning, knowing Galt is Stave's son, you might pick up on SOMETHING to denote a connection. But the ...

Now that I'm finished, my favorite line in the book

I don't have the exact line. Perhaps someone with an e-reader can provide it. But it is when Jeremiah is building his construct and Infelice has them trapped, and Stave tells her, "Woman, I am Haruchai, and I will break free and smite you with such force ..." Like I said, I don't have the ...

I like the comment above, suggesting the ring slips from one nand to ther other. Reminds me of The Naked Gun. "Say, that's a honey of an ankle bracelet." "Did that slip down there again?" I think it goes over a lot of people's heads. The ring often seems to hang loosely on Covena...

Almost finished

I haven't read any threads yet.
I read about half the book in two days. I have taken a couple of weeks now through the rest.
I'm slowing down, because, while I want to know what happens, I also know it is going to take a couple more years before I get to find out how this all ends.

About commands, and Elena and Kevin. I do think that the Law of Death was a barrier between life and death and did not set a limit on the ability to act or have power. Both Dead Kevin and Dead Elena are expressly noted as having made decisions. Kevin not as subtle. Foul knew a whole lot more about a...

Something I've been a bit fuzzy about... Elena brought Kevin back from the dead and broke the Law of Death. Caer Caveral brought Hollian back from the dead and broke the Law of Life. Why did each act break a different Law? Is the difference that Hollian was actually "alive" afterwards? An...

Andelain, nor Landsdrop nor the Sarangrave Umm, Andelain is a gently wooded land that almost makes you weep. Just like Lothlorien. Position wise, both in the middle, a little to the east. Just a touch. Andelain a little more. Sarangrave? A nasty swamp where things under the ground try to swallow yo...

Why did they pick it up?
Nothing else to do in Coercri on a Sunday night, actually. Blue laws. Dead population. Makes for a boring mix.
"What do you want to do tonight, Korik?"
I don't know, what do you want to do tonight?"
Hey, shiny green thing!
