I just looked at some photos of David Byrne. That could work.

Maybe we'll turn this into a "if it ever becomes a movie..." type thread. John Carradine isn't still alive, is he? (I know about David -- I live in Thailand.)

Yep, that's what I meant. Abraham Lincoln built a log cabin at Haven Farm before he was even born and... Oh, wait. Torn, tortured, driven by inherent goodness and sticking to one's ideals. Nah, I never met Honest Abe personally, but that's okay because I never met Thomas Covenant personally either.

Peter, I have JUST read the part of The One Tree where your SIG comes from. Damn, that's cool. I was thinking of the tortured soul aspect, but then it occurred to me that, just like your email says, all aspects. Right down to tall and gaunt. Freak out. Now I might research how to put capital letters...

Oh, I forgot to mention that I am also reading a little sci-fi number called ENIGMA, but you can't find it because I haven't finished writing it yet. A bit like its prequel, CONUNDRUM, minus the redeeming qualities.

Is Thomas Covenant like Abraham Lincoln?

I'm just asking the question. What do you think?

By the time you read this, I'll have probably moved on to WHITE GOLD WIELDER.

The first two entries in The Last Chronicles have not reached Chiang Mai, Thailand, yet, so I ordered those from Better World Books yesterday. Life is good.

Yep, I read Eats, Shoots and Leaves cover to cover more than once. Grammar Girl's cool too.

And now, back to The One Tree. My copy's so cheaply printed that an occasional word is misspelled, but all the commas and apostrophes are as they should be. Yay!

You can't, hurt a sentence by putting in, too many, commas. Type, like Captain Kirk, speaks.

THE ONE TREE. My project to reread the first two trilogies, perhaps 30 years after enjoying them the first time around, continues. I'm just blown away by how excellent they really are. How did I manage to forget? Oh, and of course I'm putting together a book order (I live in Thailand) which will inc...

Pulling the discussion on back to the topic of this excellent Forum, I wrote my Chronicles before hearing of either The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant or The Chronicles of Narnia. But my book does owe something to this Forum. It spent 30 years being entitled The Chronicles of a Madman. But then the &...

The Chronicles of a Lost Soul

One of your discussion threads inspired the new title, but otherwise it's a short story collection that I spent 30 years writing and editing. Meanwhile, you can pick up a free copy and then throw it away in a matter of minutes.

We've got a new butcher here in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Tony's House of Sausage's. Their menu includes salad's, sausage's, salami's...

Now that's got to be a native English speaker. No Thai could do that.

Not much of a debater myself either these days. It's for the young. I'm more of a hit-and-run poster, often in 140 characters or less even away from Twitter.

I've recently reread the first trilogy, to refresh my memory after almost 30 years. Of them, The Illearth War has too much "cast of thousands" combat, too much Hile Troy, not enough Thomas Covenant. Granted, when he does show up, WOW! But he's only in the beginning, then in the last 100 p...
