I have a question. Do you think that the "Worm of the World's End" is a fact or a myth (internally to the story, of course.) I mean, we never actually see a Worm. Why do we all believe that that is what was responsible for the awakening of the One Tree and the sinking of the Isle? The Gia...

Listening to 'On Her Majesty's Secret Service' from the Propellerheads. I didn't know this song existed until searching for a reply to the Mallory's 'Song Title' game. This Bond movie happens to be my favourite - because of the theme music. Made the hair on my scalp tingle when I was a kid, and to t...

At the battle of Soaring Woodhelivin, there was a griffin, do you remember? If not mistaken, wasn't that the first and last flying beast in the Chronicles? In some far flung way I think of Thomas Covenant's mustang, Dura Fairflank , as having the capacity for flight ... ... something to do with 'th...

Doesn't Andelain personify Lena? At least in some anagrammatic sense. because it is at the heart of the Land, around broken Gravin and Kiril Threndor. Andelain "personifies" the love of the Land itself as if the Land in total is one individual living creature. Yes, of course. Something in ...

The one part that might be impossible to capture in a non-cheesy way is the health sense, ie. the earthpower-based sixth sense of things are right or corrupt relative to their natures. Adding an aura around things would look cartoonish. But there may be creative solutions to this that I have not th...

If anyone's interested, Tolkein's inspiration for the Ents actually came from Shakespeare. In Macbeth, there's a prophecy about a certain forest coming to the castle... Tolkein hated Shakespeare's method of fulfilling that prophecy, and decided he would do things right :) Treebeard might well be To...

Playing electric guitar I'm using a pistachio shell as a plectrum. I find it fits snugly with the tip of the index finger, (easier at first on the upstroke). And with practice gives surprisingly good results.

Anyone do this?

Only just noticed this. I really liked Allan Holdsworth. I got to see him play just the once. It was at a super-small gig - like about 50 people - sitting so close to the stage you could have spoken to him without raising your voice. And believe it or not he actually got boo'd at the end of his perf...
