Brinn--A well reasoned, persuasive and honest post. Put in those terms, I am hard-pressed to find something to argue with. Give me a chance though :) As soon as I can think of something, I'll be back  Also, I am pleased/ashamed to say that for once, Mr Bush's revised explanation makes better se...

Very interesting indeed. I have never heard of Jihad as the sixth pillar, but then, I have never had the opportunity to debate with an Islamic radical. I suppose it comes down to the age old dichotomoy of all religion. People will extract what they feel is the most relevant parts of their religious ...

Sure I've got things to add, (I'm chronically verbose) and thanks for thinking of me Cj :) I really like Gemmel, but I think I prefer his earlier books. Haven't really kept up with the Rigante series, although I'll get around to it sometime. Cj, you can't go wrong with Neverwhere, it's one of my all...
Brinn-- Fair enough, I certainly don't dispute that Islam has been characterised by as many religious conflicts as Christianity has, but I think Ur-Vile makes an excellent point. However, Jihad is not a requirement of Islam. The only requirements are the 5 pillars of the faith: Shahada (affirmation)...

What happens when the root cause of most terrorism is the belief that there is one true religion and all others must either convert, live as second class citizens, or die. I'm not sure I agree that the objective of terrorism is to convert people to Islam. If it is, what are the Italian Red Brigades...

This is actually just an extract from something else that I wrote, so everything may not be exactly germaine, but nonetheless: “A War on Terror.” This is one of the stupidest ideas that I’ve heard in a long time. Where does terror live? It’s not a country that can be conveniently bombed, or sanction...

Afternoon folks. I haven't read this whole thread, as my laziness is strong today, not to mention that I'm pressed for time, but I think that Mhoram had a fine grasp of the concept that all knowledge is morally neutral. (Yes, I know, I've already said that in another thread about something completle...

I hear you. Lost a couple of months worth on another forum, and it neary killed it. We rebounded though, and made it better than ever. Just goes to show how ephemeral all these things really are. We have to take the bad (i.e. the chance of losing it) with the good (i.e. being able to be here at all)...
