I've got all sorts of things I read that I don't recommend because I have (all kinds of concerns!) that others reading 'em will cause more harm than good!

I feel like if you just have 1 or 2 nerdy friends who "get it," wearing some obscure costume can be fun... but I've not really tested this.

the real issue is the dearth of nerdy irl friends, some days.
(or not knowing how nerdy your rl friends actually ARE.)

the Vin cloak... enough people have read mistborn...

Been talking to Frosty earlier today from Middle Earth and she sent me this image of a eldritch beast she caught skulking about the Waiotapu mud pools

I haven't really tested that either, but it does make sense - having an inside joke, basically.

If I ended up doing anything, it'd probably be with people from my WoW guild, who are fairly geeky, but I doubt any of them have read the books I'd be basing my costume on.

If people don't recognize a mistcloak, it's their loss.

I suppose I could go with my old standby, which would be Star Trek. Or Battlestar Galactica.

The Eldritch Hat is pretty awesome.

weeelllll... the Vin cloak would have been cool, buuuut it didn't happen.
(at least I got other stuff which was awesome and fun done this month?)

I have decided I could probably make myself a pumpkin costume in < 3 hrs if necessary with materials I already have on hand. (I have this gorgeous, shimmery orange fabric I got earlier for a costume I didn't make.)
so it -could- even be kind of cool. (for a pumpkin costume.)

But D&D tropes will dominate my family's costumes this year, as I've already dressed up one kid as a little mage/sorcerer and the other one says he wants to be a thief...
Hmm, maybe I should just go with the flow.

Have you decided on a costume?

I almost bumped this thread earlier.

The D&D family idea is awesome. My costume hasn't progressed beyond the 'ideas' stage. Since I don't have kids and probably won't be doing anything, that's probably just as well.

I hope some folks out there do stuff and post pics of their costumes. /hint

I am at the exact same spot I was last year, but I know some folks here have pretty awesome costumes, so I'm bumping the thread.

I got nothing. I will probably wear the skull-and-roses headband I got in ABQ at work. But we never get trick-or-treaters in our apartment building, so it's no fun to dress up anymore. :(

The wife and I a few years ago. Thinking about pulling out the old STNG tunic again this year, if I can find it. I doubt Kim will want to do the "Curlers and Cold Cream" thing with all the padding.

I forget who took this picture. The camera phone must have really sucked. ;)

This is known.

No trick-or-treaters in this neighborhood either, which means I have to eat any candy I buy. Such a chore. I want an excuse to dress up, but I don't really have one. I suppose I could attach myself to whatever the WoW folks are doing, but that generally involves bar-hopping, which isn't really my thing.

I could do Star Trek - that's actually the only complete costume I own, and it wouldn't require explanation, unlike the idea I had last year. Now I'm feeling a bit nostalgic because I haven't worn it since my convention-going friends left town - not that I have a problem with being a solo geek, but I generally just don't.

You should go out with the WoW folks, Sorus. A change of scenery might be good for you. :)

You're probably right, but I'm wallowing in an antisocial rut at the moment. Wow, that sounded better in my head.
