given the interest in Superhero films on the Watch I'm suprised not to find a thread relating to this Marvel offering featuring the eponymous Deadpool and telling the story in flashback, of his journey into the realms of Superherodom, albeit as anti-hero rather than in the conventional manner.

The film recieved good reviews, perhaps because of it's quirky side-step from the traditional squeeky-clean good vs evil format and its irreverent breaking of 'the fourth wall' to become almost a parody of itself and the rest of the Marvel output. I liked it - just not as much as everyone else liked it. The central performance was good, the opening credits amusing and there were a few references to the other films of the Avengers Universe that gave the film added interest to those who have been following the unfolding of the story via the earlier stuff. But in the end I was slightly ...underwhelmed.... by it. It was a diversion and a fun one - but how are they going to shed this playfulness and bring Deadpool into the main stories in a believeable way now that they have played so fast and loose with their own Story-World?

It is a Marvel film though isn't it? It started with the Marvel comic strip. To be honest I didn't know the films were split into different universes - shows how much I've taken on board .

Watched this over the weekend (as a kind of antidote to 'Batman V Superman'). Very enjoyable and interestingly for a superhero movie very dialogue-based. Quite stripped down as well in its own way, very little extraneous stuff (which meant that they were able to make it for a relatively low price). Basically a love-story wrapped in superhero trappings, with some very non-PC dialogue (definitely not family friendly).

I found it quite refreshing and didn't really feel any need for it to be any more than loosely integrated into the X-Men universe. It would have felt fine as a standalone to me.

I am very much getting superhero fatigue. However, I was given a free movie ticket that had to be used up, and so I saw this movie expecting to be bored by the final act. I found myself really enjoying it, and it was a bit refreshing after all the detached and dull Marvel flicks of late (I'm looking at you Avengers 2).

But in the discussion of Marvel vs. X-Men stuff, there are different owners for the X-Men and the Avengery stuff, right? Is that why they cannot mix? I heard something about it regarding the Agent of Shield in the "Inhumans" instead of calling them "mutants." Or am I way off?

Around the turn of the century, Marvel got into financial trouble and partially solved that by selling off the film rights to bundles of characters to various film studios. The X-Men and associated characters went one way, Spider-Man and related characters another, Fantastic Four somewhere else... they were able to get back rights to Cap, Iron Man, Hulk, and the Avengers in general when they started producing themselves and eventually formed their own production company; but the other studios kept making films to keep hold of the rights.

The Inhumans are already a thing in the Marvel universe, but they were pretty minor until recently. The films and TV series are setting them up as a major part of the story in a place that would traditionally be taken by mutants, yes; but the Marvel comics universe has been doing something very similar too, greatly expanding the number of Inhumans and making them more prominent.

Fox still owns the rights to anything related to X-Men or Wolverine, which is why you didn't hear anyone call him "Quicksilver" in AoU, only "Pietro", his given name. They are going to hang on to those rights until people forget about Marvel characters (which is going to take quite a while). Sony, on the other hand, realized they had a failed franchise with Spiderman so they decided to generate some cash and partner with Marvel Studios, which is why Spiderman is going to be featured in Civil War. Early critic thoughts are that Spiderman really brings a lot to the movie. This puts him squarely in the center of the MCU but we are uncertain if he will show up for Infinite War (he probably will because money is a thing).

No, but I am surprised you haven't had the entire movie spoiled for you by now. You are in for an enjoyable ride--it is a very fun movie.

Only in the after-credits scene. I hope he gets more than just a cameo in GotG 2.

I am hoping that money from the Avenger's film allows for Spidey to show up in the Infinity War.

Deadpool is easily ignored in the X-Men films, they killed him off already.

Very much this. I think it has been done enough times that we no longer need an origin story for Batman or Spiderman. Ever again. But movie makers like origin stories, for some reason. I think origin stories have their place, like introducing a character that others don't know, but for the most part - yes.

I finally saw this. I loved it. I got superhero fatigue years ago. I've only seen the first Avengers and Captain America movies, for instance. I stopped watching them around that time. But this movie is different from all the rest. I love the characters, the writing, the style. Knowing that superheroes get laid is pretty awesome, too. I like how it makes fun of its own genre--hell, it even makes fun of itself. These movies often take themselves too seriously (throwing around Christ symbolism, for instance). This was pure FUN.

I saw this a few weeks ago as well during a flight back from California. I wasnt sure what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. Full on Fun!!!

Anyway, I really enjoyed Deadpool, but my experience was marred by sitting next to some 10yo kid. Some crazy parents just throw their kids in anything that's a cartoon or superhero movie, which isn't always a good idea (see: Sausage Party).

While the origin story dragged on a little, the rest of the movie made up for it. I've been feeling that superhero movies are a bit overly serious lately (and a bit ridiculous at the same time), so seeing Ryan Reynolds take the piss out of the genre was worth it for me.
