Dunno why it won't power the mouse...probably the mouse's fault though.

The mouse works fine when the computer is on, which is all I ask of it. I'd ask the same of my keyboard, since it's a fully backlit gaming keyboard and I live in an itty-bitty studio and it'd be enough to keep me awake if I didn't unplug it. But again, unplugging it isn't really a big deal. I suspect I will have to replace it in the near future - it hasn't been the same since the flood, though I gave it a deep cleaning (which included removing enough cat hair to make a small sweater), the keys still tend to stick. And that sucks because I really like this keyboard and they no longer make this model. (Darn so-called advances in technology.)

Oh, I hate that. Not being able to get something you liked because they've replaced it with new (but not better) stuff.

I try and keep all my software updates off too.

The backlighting might be what's keeping the keyboard on.

Several years ago, I talked myself into upgrading my music recording and editing software. I was intimately familiar with the one I had and was making fabulous progress. So I bought the newer version and gave the old one away to a struggling musician and deleted it off my hard drive to force myself to use the new software. STUUUPID!!! I hated the new, it lacked key features of the old software, and basically had no advantages except a higher bitrate which in the end was no advantage at all. Arghhh!

Oh well. I needed to focus on other things anyway.

Well I feel it's time to get out of Dodge.

I found a gold coin yesterday just lying there on the path to my front door. A highly unusual coin: slightly smaller than a sixpence, with a flying horse on one side and a minuet between two hills on the other; glimmering gold. It may have been part of a larger piece of jewelry though difficult to tell at this time.
The coin is also slightly concave, comfortable on the tip of a finger.

Several years ago, while visiting a small town in north east England, I found a small silver sword in a churchyard. It's a long story, but the circumstances were so unusual that I've treated the worthless trinket as something very special, and keep it safe inside a small lidded Greek jar.

If you have ever seen the 2010 film Clash of the Titans, starring Sam Worthington as Perseus, then perhaps you will know where I'm coming from. In this film Zues gave Perseus two gifts to help him on his quest to kill the Kraken: a silver sword, and a gold coin to cross the River Styx into Hades.
The gold coin I found now resides together with the sword, inside the jar.

So here's the thing. I'm sure it was a plant. I'm so sure in fact, that I will now have a precarious imbalance of suspicion each and every time I leave and return to my flat. So much so that I know from experience this will spill over onto Kevinswatch. These are unfortunate and inevitable consequences of living alone and finding a cure for a long term mental instability, and schizophrenia. It doesn't matter what is real or imaginary, it won't make any differance, this is something I have to take very seriously. Besides, I do have better things to do with my time.
So I'll see you kids later in the year, and remember stay outta trouble ...

Had a great Mother's Day yesterday. Went to Maryland Sheep & Wool with MagickMaker and another knitting friend, and out to dinner with both of my kids last night. MagickMaker bought me yarn and Batty got me a t-shirt with a Cheshire Cat on it. And the sun was out for most of the day. All in all, an awesome day.

Today, however, is Monday. I'm back at work and it's raining again.

Also, my fellow humans beings... they regularly do things to make me mistrust them.

So much so that I know from experience this will spill over onto Kevinswatch. These are unfortunate and inevitable consequences of living alone and finding a cure for a long term mental instability, and schizophrenia. It doesn't matter what is real or imaginary, it won't make any differance, this is something I have to take very seriously. Besides, I do have better things to do with my time.

Although on this, our 973rd consecutive day of rain,* I am having a little trouble with it myself.



* Okay, maybe not that long. But it's been, like, 16 straight days, which is a record for DC. I'm fully aware that it'll be June in a couple of weeks, and I'll want to trade hot-and-steamy for cool-and-drippy. Because in a weather year like we've had so far, there's no way DC's going to miss out on our typical subtropical humidity. All the extremes, all the time, babycakes!

Like shit. I've had 24 hours of nightmare stuff with the threat of my house being blown to blazes as a result of a gas leak, and the potential of a massive bill in lieu of repair costs. I've not got the energy left to give details but trust me, it's nearly killed me!
