Windows 10
Just got a new laptop with the above installed on it and to date my experience has not been great. Back to the usual constant stream of updates hogging all the machines power just when you need to use it and a slow clunky operation at best. my android machine is infinitely superior in terms of speed and ease of use. Bah!
Anyone else had any experiences with it?

I don't use Win10.
My Win7 was downloading updates at such a phenominal rate that my monthly internet credit was being drained in just a few short hours.
You can always turn off updates if you choose. Just type how to turn off Win10 updates into your search engine and you'll find any number of info pages with easy to follow instructions.

I've yet to update to Win10, but I am likely going to have to do *something* shortly, as my display driver keeps crashing while I'm on Facebook. (Yes, yes, I know -- it's the Universe telling me to stop spending so much time on Facebook.

Here I am on my spanking new laptop (it's actually downloading Office right now).
I had Windows 10 and was fine with it, but you MUST turn off Cortana and other data-hogging, personal-info mining crap they put on there.
Also, your printer may not like to play with it. Stag of the dawn has had awful probs with that. I usually print off my workplace network and the only problem I and other teachers have had is that it won't print two-sided properly.
My new machine has 8.1 installed and I probably won't "upgrade" unless I find compatibility problems with it.

One of our work computers got updated to Win10 without our consent (apparently, the scheduling box popped up while the user was at lunch and wasn't there to dismiss it, so it scheduled an update without us consenting to it). Anyway, we decided to try it for a while before deciding to downgrade back to Win7.
So far, it's working OK, except for one problem. When locking the screen (Win+L) about 90% of the time, the screen goes white and the machine has to be cold-restarted. Sometimes a blank dialog pops up with 2 blank buttons on it when this happens, but not always. All drivers are up to date as far as we can tell and I am at a loss as to what the culprit is.
Anyone else experienced this?

Anyone else having problems with an update from yesterday? Mine got to 30%, then kicked me to the BIOS screen. Windows eventually came back up, but now almost every time I restart the computer it gets stuck on the BIOS screen. I have to do a hard reboot, which has a 50/50 chance of working.
As far as I can tell, the update didn't complete, but there are no pending updates now. Should I restore to an earlier saved point, or hope that this is something they fix? Google suggested that it could be a dead battery in BIOS, but this is a very new computer. I'm not getting any specific error message and nothing looks wrong in BIOS, though I will confess that I don't have a lot of experience poking around in that system.
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

Sorus, it seems like restoring to an earlier saved point would at least keep your machine from crashing at boot-up. Then you could see about manually downloading the update.

I like it - it's a good combination of the best parts of previous windows versions, for me. The automatic updates are probably the only annoying thing, but that can be handled, so all good
I actually think it has improved the performance of our dodgy old laptop at home.
