Finished Tamsin. It's not The Last Unicorn, but it does have its own magic.
EDIT: To be fair, does any author get more than one of those revelatory, mind-expanding books? Which is why I almost hesitate to read more Samuel Delaney.

Still on Forge of Darkness.

As for Outlander, I've been less excited about the more recent books. Seems like she's focusing more now on Young Ian -- which makes sense, I guess, as both Jamie and Claire are getting to be old folks. I *really* wanted her to wrap up the Brianna-in-the-modern-day story line in this last one.
Spoiler
And then I got my wish. But I didn't rush to read this last one and I probably won't rush to read the next one, either...

I don't think she has a release date yet. Her website says it takes her 2-3 years to write each book. Tack on another year+ for the usual trad-pub folderol, and we're talking 2017, maybe?

Still mostly lurking, but just finished Children of Earth and Sky by Guy Gavriel Kay. I feel much moved by the story more than the last book of his I read which was Under Heaven. I loved it while reading it and after (I'm an ethnic Chinese in Singapore/Malaysia; if that confuses you-Under Heaven is set in an alternate history China). I didn't know where CoEaS is set but it's a semi-sequel to Sailing to Sarantium -so I kinda knew the setting. Also one of its main characters is an artist who travels , like in sailing to Sarantium-so as a wannabe artist, I predisposed to love this book (the scenes of the artist painting or thinking of painting were very moving- more than SoS). But I was surprised how much the book moved me. Parts of Under Heaven did and most of SoS but almost all the second half was making me misty-eyed and kept dabbing my eyes to continue reading. Anyone else tried Guy Gavriel Kay(or his latest-I know there is a thread but no Children of Earth and Sky I saw, at least)

Nice to see you posting SFFasia.
Don't lurk, join in everywhere.
Funnily, the only book of his I ever read was Tigana, and it too me more than 10 years.
I could never get past the first 100 pages, and I tried sporadically over years.
Then one day I managed it, and basically read the rest of the book in one sitting, and was sorry that it ended.
I should really get some of his other stuff.

I LOVED Sailing to Sarantium/ Lord of Emperors. I read it once and for some reason wasn't feeling it so much, but the second read was really great. I also read River of Stars but for some reason it didn't "stick" with me. Maybe I have to reread that one as well. Anyway Sffasia, your comment that it shares the alt-world with SoS intrigues me, that will go on the TBR list.
I just started, on impulse, SRD's Gap series. Since school begins next week it will probably take weeks and weeks to finish, since I'm usually exhausted by the time I get home and reading is not active enough to keep me awake long.
Also, Sffasia, you may like the Eternal Sky trilogy, as it is kind of an alternate history of China/Russia/Mongolia/Finland/India or something, but with more magic and horses.

Excellent choice. Though there will come a time when you won't be able to put it down, not even to sleep.deer of the dawn wrote:

That's another author whose work has been recommended to me many times, but I have not read anything by him yet.Sffasia wrote:Anyone else tried Guy Gavriel Kay(or his latest-I know there is a thread but no Children of Earth and Sky I saw, at least)

I'm rereading stuff I've read a dozen times before, but looking forward to The Obelisk Gate finally coming out on Tuesday.
Edit. Gah. It's not this Tuesday. It's next Tuesday.
And by 'finally' I mean that I'd thought it was already available when I started the first book, so it has felt like a long wait.
