There's a 32-year gap between posts somewhere in there. And some folks grumble when I bump a thread that's a few years old. :P

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

aTOMiC - that is an awesome idea! No announcement of such import from the Watch could ever be construed as Spam: it is an announcement about an event occurring in a special interest group that the recipients elected to join. Many will, for all their absence, have fond memories of the friendship and communion, the tustles and the smiles they have shared in here and few would resent an invitation to pop in for a quick wave and a "Hello" even if they did not choose to partake.

I'm in, and though neither mod nor computer buff will lend support in any way I can (hellfire - I'll even go through the membership list and pm every past-member whose name I recognise with the details in person if that helps!). Let's make it happen! :D

(Love the crystal/watch connection WF - How do you do these things? ;) )

Thanks Peter. Its really awesome that the idea has this kind of support. I agree with you in that I doubt many absent members would be annoyed by a head's up for the event.

I know I came up with this idea but I have no way of knowing how to make it official and begin making plans. Av? Ali? Jay? Somebody?

Well, I think we pick a date and come up with stuff we'd like to do. Then we spam the crap out of the member list.

Um. Maybe not that last part, so much.

Do we need an anniversary banner for the site, to debut on the actual anniversary? And who's still around who can make us one? Maybe have a contest for it?

dAN's official history of the Watch should be enshrined somewhere, for sure.

What about moving the site to the new BBS software at the end of the anniversary month? What an April Fool's Day prank, huh? If the place blows up, at least we'll go out in a blaze of glory...

Okay, back to serious stuff. I think the anniversary banner is a workable idea. Other games? Maybe re-institute the Watchies as a one-time thing? And what about a new anthology?

 Sounds like whenever that was done awhile back, it was not happy for the one sending mails... :-/

Yay - I, too, was thinking "Build it and they will come."
Yes, Watchies.

Anthology? I want to have stuff go in that!
(It's already been put here; how else would I publish it after that?)

We should totally do an anniversary banner contest. :-D

I like the banner contest, and the History thread.

We're definitely gonna do a mass mail (although a lot of the member email addresses we have may be invalid now), and screw anybody who doesn't like it. What's the worst they can do huh? Complain?

I'm not sure I even check my email address of record anymore. But I'm here, so...

Well I can see a plan forming.
A special banner is a terrific idea. I'll throw something together for a contest.
Email spamming is a good thing. Lets not kid ourselves. :-)
A 2017 Anthology would be terrific. I have a lulu account so I can handle publishing duties this time and give Jay a break.

I troll around this forum a bit and occasionally wind up on the members page. I noticed that there is an entry that states the last time a user had logged in.
Let me list just a few of the members I remember that have not posted in a year or more. BTW I have no idea about their fate or why they stopped dropping by. Also some of these may be pseudonyms for currently posting members. I'm not up on who turned into who (except for Null).

There are many more, obviously, but it always gets me wondering what prompted these people to stop posting or even logging on to the site for so long. Even when I was away you could probably look up this stat on my name and see I had at least logged in within a month or so.

But these people and the others that I didn't list are the one's I'd like to see back here one last time for the anniversary. Maybe they didn't realize they would be missed but they are. :-)

Sheesh, I feel a little nostalgic twinge looking at all those names. Some of them, I can't believe it's been that long.

My interpretation, as someone who has not really connected with anyone here on Facebook, is that the role of this forum as a place for friends to hang out has shifted to other media. Since the same has happened with the role-playing section, and the main membership attractant left is the now retrospective-only TCTC discussion and flat out internet nostalgia, things have petered out more and more. The second order member attractants like HTTT are as likely to turn people off as attract them, and in fact with impressions varying over time, there's a slow process of attrition that occurs even with the hardcore members there. In fact most of the liberal and non-US voices, once a significant reason to post there, have been lost. So what you're left with is the time wasting aspect of the site and the odd new or new/old SRD fan who stumbles across this internet... relic. Or rather, empty temple.

The catholic church is the largest pro-pedophillia group in the world, and every member of it is guilty of supporting the rape of children, the ensuing protection of the rapists, and the continuing suffering of the victims.

Ooh.
Now that you mention that...
It might help explain why it still seems so utterly effective as a social outlet to some of us:
I, for example, somewhat fear and rather despise Facebook.

But what you said about time-wasting...?
Perish the thought!

nice going with the dramatic imagery (this is me thinking of the precedent atomic set in the "truncated discussions and abandoned conversations" thread - though maybe you haven't seen that one)
