Remembering the Kevinswatch Anthologies

Post by aTOMiC »

I originally posted this in the KW Anthology Forum (which I found kind of by accident) but realized the forum has been archived to the "Temp" folder which I guess is purgatory for forums. Therefore I have reposted it here so that its seen.
matrixman wrote:Yes, when you stop to think about it, the writing talent at KW is remarkable, as well as the very existence of the Anthologies. I wonder if other message boards/fan sites have attempted similar projects, or if KW is unique.
MM mentioned something interesting here.
I can't think of another board that ever attempted such a thing.
When the Anthologies were at their peak I was quite pleased and entertained by everyone's contributions. It was a really special time on the Watch.

I also regret not purchasing copies of the Anthologies when I had the chance. I guess I figured I had plenty of time and since I'd read every story more than once there was no rush.

Impermanence is annoying.

In any case I was extremely impressed with everyone's submissions and it was difficult for us on the team to choose some and not others. I found every story submitted to be entertaining and some were just downright fun.

I was very glad to be a part of it.

There was some talk about having them republished - I guess it never went anywhere, but I think Jay still has the files.

He might be happy to turn the project over to someone else, given that he's all busy with being a new father and whatnot.

We talked about it. I said I could probably format the old print files for ebooks, at least. Never heard anything more about it. :(

The offer still stands, Jay...

Hmmph, Jay...

Actually, IIRC, that forum is actually hidden from everybody. You can only see it 'cause you're the mod of it.

Yeah, fun times. :D

That's what I figured. Ask me what its like to be in charge of an empty room that nobody knows about. :-)

I have a Lulu account so if I can get the images for the covers and the pdfs for the manuscripts I can create new homes for the old anthologies.

Heh. After a quick google search look what I found on Amazon. They are probably listed as out of print but its proof they existed. :-)

And this commentary popped up from 2008 by...myself which I had forgotten about.

Someone is actually selling a used copy. Weirdness. I wonder who bought it and why they're selling it.

Yeah I found that interesting too. The Anthologies were made available through what is essentially a vanity press so its exposure to the world at large, I should think, would be fairly limited. But what do I know?

Yeah, pretty limited. Guess it was a member, or maybe somebody who was given one. :D

Well I checked and a vanity book dAN and I published a while ago through lulu has popped up on other seller's sites. I guess Lulu shares its members books more widely than I thought.

I have a copy of the one my story was in.
Dandelion don't tell no lies
Dandelion will make you wise
Tell me if she laughs or cries
Blow away dandelion

I'm afraid there's no denying
I'm just a dandelion
a fate I don't deserve.

I like the title. "Kevinswatch Anthology: 2017"
