Woke up this morning and found that Avatar hadn't posted since I went to bed last night. I don't know what to do. This never happens. My whole world is turned upside down. :-)

Maybe he's on leave from us? :(

But hey, this is your big opportunity to claim his spot as Fastest Poster. You just need to make 30K posts this weekend, give or take.

In answer to the thread title - like shit. Last night at work a guy threatened to kill me and told me l was a c***! after a tirade of abuse which left the only other customer, a middle aged lady open mouthed with shock. She came back with her husband from the car to check I was OK (the guy had gone by then) and they said they didn't think I was safe in there. They were right of course, but what are you going to do. It's my job - and tonight I go back and do it all again. Christmas is the worst in my game. :(

That sucks, Peter - sorry. Were you working alone? Never a good idea, but I know (believe me, I know) that sometimes you don't get a choice.

Thanks Sorus: I had a nineteen year-old girl with me - but she was out back on her break. That kind of occurence is thankfully pretty rare, but makes you miserable when it happens. No-one goes to work to be abused. Still - as I told my boss yesterday when she implied I had handled it wrong, any result that saw me standing talking to her and not stretched out on a bed or worse was the right way of handling it.

Ah, yes. I love it when the person who wasn't there thinks they could have done a better job. One of the things I miss about my last job was knowing that my co-workers had my back. I'm still amazed by the sheer amount of petty backstabbing where I work. One of the perks of not being a member of the clique is that I get all the malice right to my face instead of behind my back. I prefer it that way. On a good day, it's fascinating from an anthropological perspective. On a bad day, it's just tiresome.

I don't know if this helps, but many years ago when I was working retail I had this woman unload her truckload of manure on my personal self. It was so out of the blue, as I stared at her open-mouthed I realized it really had nothing to do with me. I was a safe person for her to dump on (rather than someone she actually cared about). I actually felt sorry for her.

I haven't been pulling my weight around here lately, I know. Fawn of the Dawn is visiting us in Africa and I just love having her around. That, and school literally just ended hours ago for Christmas break and December is just one thing after another. After Thursday I have a whole 5 days with nothing on the calendar, WOOOOHOOOO!!!! How I love staying home and being bored!!!

Sorry TOM. :D I was coming to terms with being on leave. This is my first foray online since Thursday afternoon. :D

I feel pretty good. Damned cat is still getting me up before the crack of dawn, so for the most part my schedule will be the same, but I might take more days off. :D No work until the 3rd.

Ah, that sucks Peter. Lemme guess...turfed out of a nearby pub?

Am still coming off of a 5 day migraine. My 12th this year. The worst part of them is NOT the headache, it is the cognitive impairment. Well, I say that, because I feel like I can't form a complete thought; but I decided to take an online IQ test today to see how stupid I was and it gave me the same score I got in 4th grade. So, I guess I just feel stupid.

Anyway I am starting to feel like myself again, school's out, and Christmas is coming! Yay!!

I can't function when I have a migraine. I just want to curl up in a dark corner until it goes away or the world ends, and either scenario would be fine. I've had severe tension headaches for the past couple of months, which are unpleasant, but nowhere near migraine level. And I'm getting better at preventing them, at least when I'm awake.

But I have approximately 15 Santa Babys left to endure this year, and the co-worker who makes me clench my teeth (hello, tension headache) is supposedly going on vacation in the near future, and while that's nowhere near as good as having a vacation of my own, my stress level is so much lower when I'm not being stabbed in the back every five minutes. Funny how that works.

A co-worker backstabbing with anything like that kind of frequency --- aagh!
Maybe someday people will Google "depictions of Hell - first half of the 21st century," and some credit for how things develop in that vein will go to these stories. (!)

The story about 4 different versions of "Santa Baby" in a row horrified me as well, but that is maybe on a different scale from the co-worker.
More "is that even possible? that is almost hilarious..."

That's slightly like the moment I thought a radio station played the same song I had an issue with twice in a row.
Except I was mistaken.
(there were actually TWO "If I could go back and talk to my younger self..." songs frequently playing on said station, and I hadn't disambiguated them!)
Wheras yours was for real.
And not as bad as "Santa Baby." *shudder*

I think about making snarky comments about Christmas songs to all y'all now whenever I listen to the radio while driving.
Hope you're all pleased. ;)

Anyway, I've had ups and downs.
I've had some satisfaction in my daily work.
And I have more peace with a family member who I just wanted to start a fight with a week ago. ("about what?" me: "oh, anything!")

But there's still this one big, seemingly impossible-to-fix-situation looming up ahead; it's a mess, and it's got me disappointed.

Also, in a different type of wretched feeling, does anyone here ever get like exceptionally super-panicked over fear of failing others? I've tasted that panic again today.
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
-Flannery O'Connor

Only on calendar entries ending in "...day." Seriously, Linna, this anxiety is a near-constant in my life. Not that I am complaining; I chose this and own it.

Still, the rare days (like my birthday last week) when I am told not to worry about anything and stuff happens without my constant shepherding are a huge relief...even if I have to force myself to let go enough to allow it to happen.

Decided to have some soup while I watched a film. Got some bread out to defrost and started the film. Forgot about the soup. After the film, saw the bread on the kitchen counter and remembered. Turns out I have no soup. Made toast.

Ah, but what did you have on your toast? :D

I feel like it's nearly Christmas. For what it's worth.
