The Band of The Land

Post by deer of the dawn »

I have this fantasy of having an elohimfest where we set up instruments and rock out. Everybody dancing. Although some of us can be on stage, cranking out the tunes.

I can contribute guitar and vocals. I know dAN and TOM play guitar and bass (I can't keep them straight). We still need a drummer, keyboardist, maybe a sax or dobro or other specialty instrument. Who's in?

Also, what will our set list be? Go.

If I am present, I can also bass.

Historically I have found it very difficult to attend Elohimfests however if I were already there I would be happy to contribute musically in some way. I primarily play guitar and sing however in order to compose songs I have learned to play bass somewhat, keys when I need them and drums enough to keep a simple 4/4 beat. dAN primarily plays bass and some guitar but he would be much more valuable in a jam as he knows many songs where I know how to play my songs and not much else. :-)

An interesting idea though.

I have often thought it would be cool for members of the Watch to compose an original song over the internet by laying down individual tracks one at a time locally and then transmitting them to a central drive where they could be mixed down. I've done such things myself.

Jazz sings beautifully and plays guitar. Tom's daughter(Prorider?) is similarly talented.

Kyrstie would be pleased to hear you say that, dAN. For some illogical reason she feels intimidated by everyone in the band. The truth is she has more talent right now than I ever had in my life. Musicians are such screwballs. :-)

I wouldn't mind opening for Holocaust at an Elohimfest.

Man, I would love to hear some of these tunes. Even better, learn them. So, we have half a set's worth of songs right there. What other songs we got?

I think the album is out of print, but it's on YouTube. Probably not with chords and whatnot though.

Some time ago I wrote one song dedicated to Thomas Covenant called Unbeliever. That's about as far as I ever took it.

I could handle the pyrotechnics. And by "handle" I mean set them on fire and run away.

Since he may or may not show up, :D a number of his songs could certainly make the set list.

Skating Away is probably my favorite song of his. I don't think I could listen to Aqualung again (the album), but Heavy Horses was thoroughly enjoyable.

Surely Songs from the Wood would be heartily called for!
  • Let me bring you songs from the wood:
to make you feel much better than you could know.
Dust you down from tip to toe.
Show you how the garden grows.
Hold you steady as you go.
Join the chorus if you can:
it'll make of you an honest man.

Let me bring you love from the field:
poppies red and roses filled with summer rain.
To heal the wound and still the pain
    that threatens again and again
as you drag down every lover's lane.
    Life's long celebration's here.
I'll toast you all in penny cheer.

Let me bring you all things refined:
galliards and lute songs served in chilling ale.
    Greetings well met fellow, hail!
I am the wind to fill your sail.
I am the cross to take your nail:
A singer of these ageless times.
With kitchen prose and gutter rhymes.

Songs from the wood make you feel much better.
