I agree with that. There are just too many dangers.Avatar wrote:If you've already got them trained to indoors, keep them that way is my advice, even if you move. I wish mine were indoor cats.

He is fixed. Luna was supposed to get fixed, too, but I was jobless and the vet couldn't get her in for several weeks, and when my appointment came around, I couldn't afford it, and they wouldn't work with meSorus wrote:I'm not gonna drag out my whole soapbox, but I would also recommend having him fixed, as one of the many benefits to male cats is that they don't tend to wander as far.

Having kittens is the last thing I ever wanted to happen, but it was neat because I've never seen any sort of a live birth before, and now I have, and have got to watch them turn from mutant mouse creatures into little pretty kitten cats.

Eeeeeewwwwwww!!! They're brother and sister!Sorus wrote:Ah, sorry. I assumed he was the daddy. Sucks that the vet wouldn't work with you, but glad it turned out to be a positive experience.

So he's the uncle. Luna and Saturn used to be pals, but Luna didn't like him when she was pregnant (she wouldn't even let him eat, she'd run him off!). Now she tries to be friendly to him, but he decided he doesn't like her now.

Damn cats...
So...a few months back, I took my ginger to the vet for his shots. At the time, he had a bit of feline acne, so the vet gave e some stuff, told me to keep wiping his chin, and it should clear up.
Then, a few weeks back, I took little Harley to the vet because she had a sore in her mouth, so she got an antibiotics shot.
Told the vet that the ginger's acne hadn't cleared up, and was told if it wasn't gone by the end of the month, bring him back.
Took him back this past saturday and he got an antibiotics shot, and a cortisone one.
Then yesterday, he turned up with a scratch on his eye. So it was back to the vet for antibiotic eye drops.
So that's several k's worth of vet in the last couple of weeks...plus we have to give him 2 types of eye-drops every 2 hours for the next 5 days.
He's not happy, and we're not happy. Poor little guy.

Ouch. Isn't Harley your neighbor's cat? How did you end up paying her vet bills?
I had to give antibiotic shots to my youngest a while back. It wasn't fun for either of us. The best part is that I had Kara at the vet at the same time, and the vet decided to train me using Kara as the demo because they didn't want to cause more stress to Phe, who had already been poked and prodded quite enough that day. So I injected Kara with saline, and Kara didn't even blink. This is easy, I thought. Right. Phe jumped about six feet the instant she first felt the needle and came down glaring at me with her righteous fury on. It didn't get any easier. Hope that's not something I ever need to do again.

Because she's decided she doesn't want to be the neighbours cat. No, nothing will do but that she be our cat.
So now she is. *sigh* She totally lives with us now, eats here, sleeps here etc. Which also means I get to pay her vet bills.
Worst part is her sister is trying desperately to move in as well, but we can't handle another one, and Penny and my ginger fight unmercifully, so I have to keep kicking her out. Feel bad, but already hard enough juggling the three I now have.

Eerily prescient Sorus...guess who is effectively the newest member of our damn plague of cats...Sorus wrote:I've always said that my brood adopted me. And knowing a thing or two about manipulative girl cats, good luck continuing to say no to little Penny.
At least Penny and my ginger are getting on better. However, this seems to have been a cat too far for my Demon She. In fact, yesterday was the first time I saw her in 3 weeks.
Damn cats.

I'm surprised it took that long.
Kara would probably be happier as an only cat, but she's adapted pretty well. (Took a few years though.) She and Min had their annual vet visit together a couple of days ago, and they were very well-behaved, sitting next to each other on the table with no drama. They actually seem to find solidarity in weird things like that - "Oh, you hate the vacuum too? Let's keep an eye on it together."
Unfortunately (but not surprisingly), she is going to need dental work. Teeth are expensive no matter whose mouth they're in. It's pretty absurd.

I spent ten minutes playing with my male cat using a new toy we had bought him, then went upstairs for a bath. I heard some odd noises coming from downstairs and went to investigate; not content with his play session, he had gotten behind the cupboard, rooted out his toy and was sitting on the mat waiting expectantly as if to say "I want more!"
I went back upstairs, completed filling the bath, turned around and his sister was sitting on the floor behind me with one of my socks which she had brought to me as if to say "I want to play too!"
