People who try do their work correctly and are willing and freundly enough to do extra stuff if neccessary get more and more tasks to do and others get away doing nothing. Those are not being asked to do anything anymore, intead they come to people like me. "XYZ needs to be done. I know you already have lots to do but we have a staff shortage bla bla bla". No, you don't have a staff shortage, you have a shortage if it comes to leadership qualities. And one more thing: don't complain to me if I don't get my reguar work done due to extra stuff.

So, so true.

2 options: Stay friendly and helpful and live with it, or stop being friendly and helpful and don't get asked. :D

Trouble is, once the responsibilities have become yours, they aren't easy to drop.

I like having responsibilities. I like being busy. I expect to work when I'm at work.

Then there are weeks like this one where my workload is giving me actual anxiety attacks, and there are 5-6 employees just standing around chatting and whatnot, and something is just wrong with that picture. Those folks don't get extra projects because people know the work won't get done. I don't want to trade places with them, but I do question why they make the same amount of money as me. (I should know better. It's just the way the world is.)

I hate responsibility. I've spent my life trying to avoid it, and yet people insist on giving me more. (Clearly I have failed.)

Uh, ask some of those people standing around to help? Or tell the boss you need help when the workload gets anxiety inducing?

In an ideal universe, yes. This is not an ideal universe.

Today's pet peeve:

Vague announcements about train delays. The favorites are 'medical emergency' and 'police activity'. That means a delay of somewhere between 5 minutes and several hours. I know they can't give details, but there are times when they know it's going to be hours and they should be telling people to make alternate plans instead of leaving us in the dark.

Still better than the train system I rode to get to my last job, where the boards would sometimes say that there was a delay because of a delay. Basically the Windows Vista of transportation systems. (The error was caused by an error.)

Hey, just because it's not an ideal universe doesn't mean we shouldn't try to make it one...

Don't you hate it when the fawcett - tap to us in the UK - in a public place throws water out so fast that it sprays you across the groin in a most suspicious way. Happened to me in the rest room of a restaurant requiring an uncomfortable walk back to my table (much to the amusement of my unsympathetic wife) the other day. I've done worse (like the time I left a trail of dog business across the carpet leading to my table, or knocked my entire plate of food onto the floor) ........ but still could have done without it!

Tech! The stuff is always only (at best) seventy five percent operational and if you're not actually in the middle of a meltdown of some description then you're just around the corner from one! :-x

(My laptop keyboard has stopped working, probably as a result of my inadvertantly pressing the wrong keys or something, so I can't key in my password and all the online solutions require you to get to the control panel, which first require I ..........key in my password!)

That's my personal favorite. I can't remember the exact wording, since it thankfully has not occurred recently.

Now a week deep in the software nightmare at work. All the random error messages have been condensed into the all-purpose 'Unexpected Error'. Really, computer? I was expecting the error. It's the Unexpected Things Working As Intended that catches me off-guard.

Why do I never get a supermarket trolley that runs straight? Every time a coconut, I fetch up with one that has a mind of its own and pulls to one side or the other. I don't push it round the aisles - I fight it! I think the manufacturers do it on purpose - to get to me!
