Its Friday! But I am sitting in a surgery center waiting room as my wife is getting a steroid shot in her neck to hopefully alleviate pain associated with degenerative disc problems. This is the second of three shots so we are at least familiar with the procedure.
Its the waiting that is the most difficult.

Buck up, Av. Every day we spend on this side of the dirt should be celebrated with joy...even if every idiot that I encounter on the roadway refuses to use their turn signals and drive like they are rushing a pregnant woman to the hospital.
As I was saying life is good in all its forms and we should strive to embrace living itself as a thing to be cherished...even if I have to sit here 5 days a week doing mindlessly repetitive things over and over again, mindlessly repetitive things over and over again.

I'm with Av on this one. This week is a write-off. It'd actually be okay if Princess Horrible wasn't using my back for stabbing practice. She's one of those people who is absolutely incapable of being wrong, so I was publicly blamed for her screw-up. Which is nothing new, and it wouldn't get to me if I wasn't so burned out in general, but I am so burned out in general, and I don't need her drama. Rant, rant, rant.
On the subject of bad drivers, there was a big poster up at the Intersection of Doom asking people to submit suggestions for lowering the number of accidents there. I didn't realize there was a big problem - I was in a hit and run there a few years ago, but I thought I was just unlucky. Apparently their main solution is to make the signal stay green longer, but that's not gonna help. The problem is people turning against the signal, and especially people not paying any attention when they're turning. I'm trying to think of a solution that doesn't include a large pit of scorpions, because I don't think they'd take me seriously, but there are few problems that can't be solved with a large pit of scorpions.

I prefer to cross with a light, given the option. People and their me-first attitudes can lead to a long wait, especially since I've been overly cautious since I was hit.Avatar wrote:Remove the lights entirely. It's been successfully done in several cities in Europe...the resultant uncertainty causes people to be more careful.

Having a heatwave here. Want rain, but would settle for fog.

We do have roundabouts.
I pass through one on my way to work every day.
I am currently working on drafting a sketch of legal description for right of way acquisition for a road improvement project featuring a roundabout.

I agree, AV. TGIF! I wish I didn't feel this way. I kind of like my job but it isn't as much fun as it was when I was 25. The only way it would return to the good old days is if dAN were hired here but our department is making due with me doing most of the drafting and others filling in the shortfall when needed so I guess nothing is going to change anytime soon. Exactly 2.5 years with the City of Tampa today.

Also grateful for Friday and to be HOME. Remember when road trips were fun?? Not so much when you HAVE to do them over and over, and stay with people who are great but don't understand that we really don't want to talk, talk, talk from dawn to midnight. But, the people have been great. We especially enjoyed staying with a family of 6 last weekend because their 4 small kids were just so cute and fun!
When I say "home" I mean the Missions House, a house our church maintains for missionaries on furlough. And, lest we get too indolent and comfortable, we have th ese road trips to remind us that this is not vacation time (cue this song, haha). We return to Nigeria January 2.

You know, if it's a white board or something (no idea) where there's unused space and people can see each-other's suggestions...
My week has been wild & crazy...
some moments of a friend speaking truth into my life.
some wondering how time goes by so fast. ("the week is simultaneously creeping and sprinting by" - I liked that, Av.)
some unforeseen successes.
some sorrows.
and some amazing fall colors. (there's the element of time again.)
Dear deer- Aaaaah!
If Mr. Heartlistener & I had you guys staying with us, we would be hard-pressed to restrain ourselves & not keep you guys up talking till midnight.
(and he's an introvert!)
yay, cute kids..
"People without hope not only don't write novels, but what is more to the point, they don't read them.
They don't take long looks at anything, because they lack the courage.
The way to despair is to refuse to have any kind of experience, and the novel, of course, is a way to have experience."
