Well this evening I get to see the last episode of the first series of Brittania. It has copped a mighty bagging from many corners so far, but I will maintain that it has been enjoyable.
It has been panned for the language it uses (some swearing amid claims that swear words were never used in "those days"... pigs arse.) to references that there are no celtic runes predating the 3rd century (if everything was drawn in blood or chalk, or by tattoo should we be surprised?) It was a verbal culture after all.
Regardless, I have really enjoyed the fact that the story has played on the might of perception and preconception. My wife thinks I watch for the redheaded warrior woman.... and she's probably only part right.
Listening to a podcast recently, there was a 1200 year period between the 400's and 1600's AD where druids and celtic history just vanishes. The sources which we have today are for the most part assumptions of what may have been. There are discoveries in the far north of Britain around Pictish culture still coming to light.
I reckon it is all fascinating stuff.....
Hope you are all well and happy. Bushfires are top of mind downunder today.

Im with you Kizza .. Im enjoying it. Though I did think one comment slightly contemporary.. "you want to bed her" .. I wondered if they did "bed" one another .. were beds even a thing ie associated with intercourse. ____. I would have been much more comfortable if she'd just said "do you want to fuck her" or "do you want to screw her" or copulate, or "sex" .. it just seemed jarring, seemed odd and out of place to me.

Yes bushfires are bad right now .. we do have a week of rain ahead. But we are used to a lot more rainfall than you guys are.

Well today I started my greenhouse. Got the floor laid and am in for a bit of a rest. It's mighty hot here today .. so was a slog _ I got 8 wheelbarrow loads of gravel moved .. that was quite an achievement.. I constructed the walls already so it should go up quite quick. I've been told that this winter will be one of the coldest in years. So need to make progress before the weather turns against me .. forecast rain.

Sky, 8O you would not have been disappointed with the two druid womens approach to Phelan on the show last night! Sorry it is over for now. Pleasing to see that a second season is confirmed.
I think that "language" is/was heavily influenced by popular culture..... So if "Black Lace" were in vogue they would all have been pushing the pineapple and shaking the tree to "Agadoo".... Maybe the language is a little too Ed Shearan (ala "I smoked my first cigarette at a castle on the hill" or however it goes) when it might have been a little more Johnny Cash (ala "we got married in a fever, hotter than a pepper sprout...")

Also, last winter seemed like a long winter, and the past few summers have seemed shorter for mine. Last winter I used about 30% more wood in the house than previous years. Good luck with the greenhouse and long may your tomatoes grow (if that is what you are growing) :!!!:

Yes Kizza  I prefer the authenticity .. oh yeah awesome finale 8O .. 🙄 the way Aulus ripped Kerras heart out was brutal .. despite being utterly unlikely he was strong enough to rip her chest bones apart with his bare hands as quickly as he did 😬

Such a really interesting mix of concepts .. do you think its building up to Boudicca 🤷‍♀️ .. its seems like the wrong age.. but umm .. cant wait to see the next season.

Yeah we went through a lot of wood last winter too. The woodshed will need stocking before the winter weather comes.

We had rain today so I got some of my timber frames painted but 🙄 need some dry to finish off. 😔 Hope I dont have to wait a whole week 🤷‍♀️ .. oh well 😁 .. have to roll with it 😁

The show is based in 43AD, and Boudica met her end in 60 or 61AD... Yes it is building to that. I think its Cait, the chosen young girl of the blind man who hasn't taken a name yet.... She is a strong chance to become Boudica. Saves a prequel I s'pose.

I had a bit of a cold.... twice in one year is kind of not common for me. Gees I can become a grumpy bastard when I am getting no sympathy! I absolutely got the $hits when I discovered a bug was eating my horseradish....actually carried on like someone had stolen something from me.
And I tell my kids not to sweat the small stuff!! ;) :D

I was struck by the idea this morning while I was plaiting the hairs in my ears. So I marched outside with the purpose of a prize fighter and headed for the tattered fronds, formerly known as my horseradish plant. I got down on my knees and pulled the pea straw back being careful not to upset the surrounding herbs..... and there I found it. The dirty slug parading as a snail without a shell. So I kept looking, and once I was satisfied there were no more I took the culprit to the green bin and thought "you can eat to your hearts content in there ya little bastard".
Dear wife said "What ARE you doing?"
I replied with a pronounced manly tone, "Sorting some stuff out."
Then I went back inside, made a cup of tea and realised this is the start of a couple of long weekends. I remembered how much work there is to do in the sheds, and decided in a self-serving kind of way that it could wait.
I dont know how long I can keep up the grumpy old bastard facade, but if it means i get to sit on my lounge and watch the tv for a couple of hours........ I like Irish breakfast tea!

What is it that The Daily Mail have got against prince Charles. For most of the week they have been running a series of stories that paint him in the most unflattering of lights; everything from plotting with Camilla to portray Diana as a hysterical narcissist to entertaining dodgy geezers with an eye to hand-outs and siphoning of Prince's Trust money into his own accounts.
Clearly they do not want him to inherit the throne when his mother dies and are doing everything in their power to try to get the public to demand that a generation is skipped and that it is William and not him that accedes to the position, but what I don't understand is why? Don't they get that good or bad, it is Charles that is heir and not William. It would set e very dangerous precedent for the lineage to be tampered with in this way and would really bring to the fore questions about the benefit of continuing the Monarchical tradition in the UK at all were this attempted putsch to be instigated.

Peter, It seems that the media has forever caned Charles. Diana was such a hit that he was always going to come off second best. The scandal created through myths and rumours concerning Dianas death, and the parentage of their youngest son is pretty awful.
Sometimes when people have big ears and a lot of money, they are an easy target for the easily led.
That is just my opinion, and for what it is worth I am no big fan of the royal family. My wife on the other hand........
