When I was in Venice, I had the Sepia a la nere, which is Cuttlefish served in its own ink with polenta. It was great, even if it did look like a bumblebee exploded on your plate. Had it twice!

Florence church tourist killed by falling stone fragment

A Spanish tourist in Italy has been killed by a falling stone fragment in one of Florence's main churches.

He was 52 years old and local newspapers said he lived in Barcelona.

The stone, said to have supported a column, had a diameter of 15cm (six inches) and fell 20 metres (65ft).

Police have closed the Santa Croce basilica, where the artist Michelangelo, astronomer Galileo and philosopher Machiavelli are buried, to tourist visits until further notice.

Gosh that's terrible Av. Poor fellow!

I did not go into Santa Croce proper (though I did see inside from a small fenced area reserved for those visiting to pray). The interior is not one of the most inspiring of Florence's churches, for all its historical interest, and to be honest by that stage of the day I was getting too churched out to be springing twenty quid to see a dull interior with a few blackened renaissance fresco's and some big name graves! ;)

I went to Florence years ago... that was back when I used to play video games as well; so I was looking around at all the sites from Assassins Creed II; wondering if I could eagle dive from the top of the Il Duomo into some hay.

 Actually one reason I'd like to play ACII now - to see how accurately they got the street plan down.
