Dinner was vegetable soup. One of the few things the GF and I can share. Of course, she likes hers chunky, and I like it thin and smooth, but you can't win 'em all. :D

I learned something new this morning. What Weetbix is.

Ok that's enough for one day. Back to bed!

It was a compromise...not chunky, but not as thin as I like it.

I hate weetbix. It's like eating cardboard. :D

Last night while Menolly was off participating in her role-play gaming group, Dam-sel and I had dinner at Matt's Rotisserie and Oyster Bar. Started with four varieties of oysters on half-shell, followed by applewood grilled sockeye salmon for her and a seafood tagliatelle (halibut, salmon, clams and shrimp) for me. Shared a bottle of a private-label Washington chardonnay. She had their hot chocolate dessert (more like a lava cake presented in a large mug) and I chose a strawberry-rhubarb cobbler.

Spendy, but really good!

Now wait a cotton-picking minute!

1. While we three usually go out together, there are occasions when I go out with one or the other, usually when the odd one out has something else going on, such as Menolly's game group. There are also times when the two of them are out doing retail therapy and take a meal together without me. What got spent at Matt's the other evening was less than the equivalent bill if I were to take Menolly to Oto for sushi on some evening when Dam-sel had other commitments.

2. Of what we ordered, Menolly would only have deigned to partake of the oysters, the dessert, and (only maybe) the wine. Her taste in seafood encompasses raw just-about-anything (even sea urchin, which I won't eat), deeply-cured fish such as belly lox or whitefish heads, and whole lobsters (she can give master classes in how to disassemble and miss no edible scrap). She is unenthused about pretty much anything else from the sea...which is a shame, since there are few better places for fresh seafood than the Seattle area.
Counterpoint: There were plenty of other choices on Matt's menu for the evening. We were just being shellfish...:P

3. Menolly gets plenty of extra dine-out opportunities since I frequently take her to lunch after her medical appointments...and she is not a soup-and-sandwich luncher by any means.

[grumble] I can't believe I have to defend taking my wife to dinner! [/grumble]

--------------------------------

Avoiding a double-post fault and getting back on topic:

Last night, with Dam-et visiting for the holiday weekend, Menolly grillled bratwurst for the four of us and I made broccoli-cheese tots to accompany them. Tonight, I am grilling a rack of baby-back ribs that will be served with BBQ beans and a tangy cole slaw. Dessert will be grilled pineapple basted with rum and brown sugar.

hahahahahahahahaha

you dont silly .. just harmless stirring is my wager .. and why not. You guys all of you get to eat out far more than we do. For us its not so much we dont like going out .. its everything is sooo much more expensive than making at home ourselves.

On the rare occasions I eat out, like once a year to a restaurant, and not a fancy one haha .. everything is a treat.

When I visited my sister a few months back she took me out ... 🙄 shes my baby sister and totally the apple of my eye .. and very well off. She owns a couple of vineyards and is a viticulturist and wine grower. That girl knows her stuff. Shes the Director of Winegrapes SA .. and I love hanging with her. She knows her wines .. oh she bought some absolutely divine wines when I was there and when we went out.

She took me to this uber fancy restaurant for lunch and ordered the most incredible food I have ever had in my life.

Bearing in mind she is 8 years younger and professionally a lot more successful than my career ever made me. But I raised 7 plus kids over the years and we always prioritised the kids, their interests and activities to the degree we could.

So we had different journeys .. hers made her very wealthy .. mine put food on the table and paid the bills and thats about it. LOL

Its wonderful that you got to take your wife out for dinner SD .. good for you. Wives need the love of their husbands ❤️ You sound like youre a good one :D

Going out gaming most Saturdays is a choice on Menolly's part, as is my deciding to dine out as an alternative to doing a strictly two-top dinner, my usual scaling being three-to-four, depending on whether I am cooking for the three of us, for us plus a lunch for Dam-sel, or for the full household when Dam-et is home. I love to cook, but I have done it virtually every night for decades. If I can afford to go out occasionally with any combination of my household, that is my prerogative.

I am not going to make excuses for taking Dam-sel out when Menolly goes to games, any more than I do when taking out Menolly when Dam-sel has evening plans...or when Menolly (consistently) hankers for lunch after a mid-morning or early afternoon appointment. I do try to control the scale of these occasions, but they each have their tastes and I am unquestionably uxorious!
[ahem] Seldom, if ever, do I take an evening where I neither make nor take folk out for dinner, instead leaving all to their own devices. [/ahem]

As you should be SD

Perhaps youd care to cook for another grateful diner. ;) I love not having to cook. In truth I dont actually cook much at home these days. Trev does most of it unless the kidlets come home .. then I assume my position in the kitchen

But if youre ever looking for someone else to spoil with your delicious home made treats or fine restaurant dining .. Id be more than happy to oblige ;) :P
