Started the audiobook of House of Shattered Wings by Aliette de Bodard, and started reading The Stone in the Skull by Elizabeth Bear, which is the first in a new trilogy set in the same world as her excellent Eternal Sky trilogy.

Eternal Sky is one of my favourite fantasy series of the last decade, and well worth checking out (starts with Range of Ghosts). This new one is off to a good start.

It's not. :D Seeing the blurb for it on Goodreads leads me to believe it's a fantasy version of the Attila story though.

No, but I didn't mean Attila, (the Hun), I meant Ghengiz Khan. :D

Just finished The Genius Plague, by David Walton. Definitely a fun read. Not exactly what I thought it was going to be, but when is that not he case? Some pretty interesting thoughts about, well, thoughts and stuff.

Thank God Mallory got off the planet of the sea creatures in Neverness. Too much body fluids... hoping for more in the character development department that doesn't involve sex or murder?...

Just read The Only Harmless Great Thing by Brooke Bolander. Short, but powerful.

Oh, ho, listen, Man, and we'll tell you everything! Do you hear the waves whispering the secret? We know you know, Man. The secret of life is just sheer joy, and joy is everywhere. Joy is what we were made for. It is in the rush of the nighttime surf and in the beach rocks and in the salt and the air and in the water we breathe and deep, deep within the blood. And the sifting ocean sands and the wriggling silverfish and the hooded greens of the shallows and the purple deeps and in the oyster's crusty shell and the pink reefs and even in the muck of the ocean's floor, joy, joy, joy!
All lies and jest

Finally finished Anathem. It had its moments, and there was a good story in there, but there was also about 600 pages too much of "philosophical" exposition.

Even a late Asimov could've told the actual story in about 300 pages, instead of the nearly 1,000 pages that Stephenson used. (Not needed, just used. ;) )

I didn't hate it, but definitely not my favourite Stephenson book by any means.

Anyway, starting Sharp Ends now, short stories by Joe Abercrombie set in the world of the First Law.

Will probably follow up with the First Law trilogy itself.
