10) See if you can remember how it felt when you first started smoking. Not only remember it, but experience it in real time physical memory.

(Which wasn't easy for me as I was 2yrs old when I started smoking ...)

Oh, it was what also made 2018 a horrid year.
Yeah, had a lumpy thing swelling in my neck, checked with doc, and he thought it was the thyroid. Some ultrasound checks later confirmed some suspiciousness, and then a few biopsies, which after the torture of doing so didn't do much to change the suspicion. So, I had the thyroid out, and it was removed completely, sliced and diced and analyzed, and they found it had about a centimeter sized cancerous whatnot, and it was completely contained, and said there shouldn't be a problem from here on out other than having to take medicine to replace all that the thyroid did. And a big ole scar.

Sorry to hear about the cancer.
Glad to hear you'll be okay.
You can have fun now telling people the big scar is from a harpooning accident. :)

I've been telling people I had my throat cut in a bar brawl, but I figure I should shake it up each time like Harrison Ford always did with his chin scar. So I'm definitely using that one.

The harpoon one is golden. Good going, WF!

And glad you're okay now, Cag. There are worse things in life than having to take a pill a day.

Agreed. Although it puts me up to three a day now. And all of my stupid vitamins and shit. I'm definitely old now with my daily pill dispenser and all the stretching and stuff.

It's a Jack Shaftoe thing. The story, in case Cags needs to know, is as follows:
In Quicksilver, Neal Stephenson wrote:"I am offering you safety, happiness, wealth-and my respect," Eliza said.

"You would not respect me for long. Let me take this one voyage, and get my money back, then-"

"One voyage for you. Eternal wretchedness for the Africans you'll buy, and their descendants."

"Either way I've lost my Eliza," Jack said with a shrug. "So that makes me something of an authority
when it comes to eternal wretchedness."

"Do you want your life?"

"This life? Not especially."

"Get off the boat, if you want to have a life at all."

Eliza had noticed what Jack hadn't, which was that God's Wounds had finished being loaded. The hatch-
covers were back in place, the herring was paid for (in silver coins, not cowrie-shells), and the sailors were
casting off lines. Only Mr. Vliet, and Yevgeny, remained on the quay-the former haggling with an
apothecary over a medicine-chest, and the latter being blessed by an outlandish Raskolnik priest in a
towering hat. This scene was so curious that it diverted Jack's attention completely, until all of the sailors
began to holler. Then he looked at them. But they were all looking at some apparently horrid spectacle on
the quay, putting Jack suddenly in fear that ruffians, or something, were assaulting Eliza.

Jack turned around just in time to discover that Eliza had seized the harpoon, which Yevgeny had left
leaning against a stack of crates, and was just in the act of launching it toward Jack. She was not, of
course, a professional harpooneer, but she had the womanly knack of aiming for the heart, and so the
weapon came at him straight as Truth. Jack, recalling a dim bit of sword-fighting lore from his Regimental
days, twisted sideways to present a narrower target, but lost his balance and fell toward the mainmast and
threw out his left arm to break his fall. The broad flukes of the harpoon made a slashing attack across the
breadth of his chest and glanced off a rib, or something, so that its point struck his forearm and passed
sideways through the narrow space between the two bones and buried itself in the mast-pinning him. He
felt all of this before he saw it because he was looking for Eliza. But she'd already turned her back on him
and was walking away, not even caring whether she had hit him or not.

Cancer. Yikes...the above...
HAH!---
Short story: Cast party one time, one guy I'd known for years gets a lot wasted and a little weepy about love-life lack...everyone [particularly the "talent," but some of the techies too..sympathizing, but y'know, altered states, gets a bit silly, I'm all DUUUDE! You need a SCAR! Everyone's "yea!, really, cool, of course," I'm all "I'll give you one, man...only hurt a little, it will work, I promise!..." More silliness.
Year or two later. Stage make-up class. Woman applying to him gives him black eye and scar.
Year after graduation, they're married.
I also have a long, funny story about the real, short, story of my tattoos, and the new-improved story of my tattoos, and the people who caused/witnessed the evolution of that story. [the real story is boring the final story only people who believe in shit like the Celestine Prophecy [as story, as wisdom, as anything but terrible] like/believe---the middle/transition story cool and is funny as hell]

I tried to quit smoking, but I'm so fucking HOT, everything/one just burns.
[[where there's fire, there's smoke?]]

In real...I'm 99% smoke-free.
Only feel like it's worth it 50% of the time.

Nicotine as a drug is not a relaxant.
However, the intent and method of consuming it can be.
[[and apparently---not fully vetted yet, related to above---it is, though a stimulant, anti-depressive, AND anti-mania, AND anti-anger, AND anti-apathy...not sure how to explain this to never-medicated people...it ameliorates/mitigates the need-to-act on those thing WITHOUT blocking the ability to FEEL them. That's a big fucking deal, and I wish/hope SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE is looking into that for reasons OTHER than "we need to stop fucking smoking, and isolate/punish fucking smokers"

AV--sadly, sometimes the peri-damage doesn't stop even when the smoking does. Trust me.

Last:
Who the fuck is Esmer?

Did "I've decided to quit smoking" magically yield "which made me start typing."

If the above matter, does that yield the result that I have to fucking care?

hey, Esmer, is that a caesura in your profile, or are you just glad to meet me?

the difference between evidence and sources: whether they come from the horse's mouth or a horse's ass.
"Most people are other people. Their thoughts are someone else's opinions, their lives a mimicry, their passions a quotation."
the hyperbole is a beauty...for we are then allowed to say a little more than the truth...and language is more efficient when it goes beyond reality than when it stops short of it.

Yeah, I know, but it certainly wouldn't hurt...

Anyway, I'm on a punishing oral hygiene regimen that appears to be helping...
