You could be right
... but Im afraid Im of the opinion that she made her choice to defy the West and the UKs interests by allying herself with its enemies.
I understand that she was a minor when she made that choice, but old enough for her, her family and her support network to know better.
To not be ... fazed by a container of decapitated heads makes me also question her value add to British society.
Thats a bed I wouldnt want to lie in.

Absolutely my first reaction Sky - and then I thought "Hang on - last week you were singing loud about the risks to youngsters allowed free reign on the internet (and indoctrination by very nasty people must be included in these risks) - but now you heap blame upon one of these youngsters so ensnared and say to yourself that she must be forced to carry the can for her youthful error for the rest of her life". Talk about double standards! I deserve to have my arse kicked.
And in truth it just ain't that simple. This girl is a British citizen. She has no dual nationality and as such it is against international law for her to be stripped of her citizenship and left stateless (never mind that it would be utterly wrong to do this). As a British citizen she has a right in law to return to the UK; it says it on page one of her passport that she must be allowed to pass into the UK "without let or hindrance" - and so she must be allowed to do, but of course in the understanding that on her return she will be subject to the laws of this country and if it can be demonstrated that she is in or has been in contravention of any of these then she will be subject to the full weight of the judicial system. If she has committed crimes in another country then it is encumbent upon that country to decide on whether she should be released to travel or subject to trial in that country.
But above all of this, a degree of humanity must accompany our understandable outrage at her actions. She has done wrong and made herself dispicable in our eyes - but she was a minor, she was failed not only by her own ability to withstand the controlling influences she was subjected to, but also by our own inability to protect her from such abuse. No matter what we feel, she does not (and neither does her unborn child) deserve to be abandoned to the tender mercies of daesh, or whatever obnoxious grouping of similar ideology emerges to replace it, for the remainder of her life. This would be the greater crime I think.

I hear what youre saying but her return to the UK may in fact be a right she waived on joining ISIS.
Yet, should she be allowed to return to the UK, a significant problem with prosecuting her at home and her facing the British judicial system ... is collecting evidence after the fact presents as problematic.

It might sound unfair, even arguably cruel to require her to face the conseyof her own choices es and actions ... but very very act of joining ISIS alone could prevent her return. The UK has strict laws for citizens wishing to return after traveling to ISIS territory.
Thus, the UK government under the guidance of then Home Secretary and current Prime Minister Theresa May can now revoke citizenship from dual and non-dual nationals that have, "conducted him or herself in a manner which is seriously prejudicial to the vital interests of the United Kingdom, any of the Islands, or any British overseas territory."
The girls lawyer calls on the UK Home Office to take the view of the Metro PoliceTo address the issue of British citizens fighting for terrorist organizations overseas, the Home Secretary has also noted that the government may utilize the Treason Act in cases where terrorists have pledged allegiance to another organization.
I take your point Pete, that its never simple.Tasnime Akunjee, a lawyer for the families of the teenagers, told the UK's Press Association news agency that British authorities should remember the position that the former Metropolitan Police Commissioner took when the girls first went missing.
"The position of the Metropolitan Police was that they should be treated as victims, so long as they hadn't committed any further offenses while they are out there," Akunjee said.
Yet, should she be allowed to return to the UK, a significant problem with prosecuting her at home and her facing the British judicial system ... is collecting evidence after the fact presents as problematic.

One of the main problems I have with this girl returning is that I see it as a slap in the face of every victim (and of course the families thereof) that ever died, be it under the headsman's axe abroad or at home in random public attacks, at the hands of this medieval thinking and behaving collective. But the fact is that this girl was groomed and then 'married' [within three days of arrival in Syria to a complete stranger as it happens] and impregnated twice before she was even sixteen. By any standards this is abuse and she deserves that the wrong done her in being so treated be undone to it's maximum possible extent. This can only be done here, in this country, away from the influence of the mindset that will spawn other groups as yet unknown to fill the bloodstained boots of the now reduced Isis.
In respect of the problem of collection of evidence, is not the problem here that we cannot concern ourselves with what she may or may not have done in a third party state other than in what our laws say that she may or may not do while she is there; that surely is outwith our remit other than in support of investigations that may be being carried out by the state in question. There has been to date no suggestion that she was actually involved in the beheadings or fighting within the region, rather more functioning as a 'baby producing machine' for the group - although this would have to be fully investigated upon her return. Also any other 'intel' she can provide in terms of names and operational strategy would be better gathered here than abroad and in this way the risk and cost of her presence can be mitigated by the help she might provide in preventing future atrocities. Should not our message to these pernicious groupings be "you may succeed in taking our young and impressionable citizens on occasion - but we will take them back and undo the harm you have wrought on them, and in so doing we will learn to know you the better thereby". Humanity should defeat hatred at every at every turn in this world and this seems to me a good place to start.

Again I hear you Pete. And your point is valorous indeed, kind and compassionate.. and there is much value in forgiveness and reunification imv.
From a pragmatic perspective deprogramming is often a solution touted to counter and dismantle radicalisation .. and it is successful in many cases .. and may well be in these young womens situations.
Though we lack a great many facts. We dont know what precisely encouraged these young girls to become brides. Whether their families played a role in their daughters dedication to the ISIS cause or some other propaganda mechanism was at play, noting that social media has been used In radicalisation.
You can be sure however, that your intel agencies have a much better idea about the facts, than you or I do from various media reporting in the issue. You can also be sure that your intel and CT agencies are more fully across the viability of reprogramming and deprogramming approaches with such young girls.
Aqsa is one such girl .. who was an ideological convert to the cause, as many are ... but being a woman does not denote non involvement in the terrorist jihadi agenda..
However, as important western justice is in defence of innocence, one cannot simply assume because these young women are women, that they are victims, or that they were not involved in criminal actions ie fighting or killing for IS.
And its not just minors who are joining IS as jihadi brides
My point is to simply state that although these young girls were minors when recruited, they may not be innocent .... neither in that choice, nor of the actions that followed that choice.
Even jihadi brides are required to train, fight and support terrorist actions as well as the terrorist agenda.
Which is a far cry from the notion of young women, abused and innocent and unaware of the heinous acts of their terrorist overlords.

So yes, there might well be regret, desperation to return to their homelands.[Aqsa] ... also became a commander of the feared all-female Al-Khansa terror brigade in Raqqa
But Aqsa, whose whereabouts are unknown and social media accounts have been removed, has said she would rather die in Syria than return to the UK, writing in her now-deleted blog: "A death in these beautiful lands is more pleasing to us than a life of luxury in the west."
However, as important western justice is in defence of innocence, one cannot simply assume because these young women are women, that they are victims, or that they were not involved in criminal actions ie fighting or killing for IS.
[Grace Kijhai Dare] ... used social media to gloat about the beheading of the American journalist James Foley and said she wanted to be the first British woman to kill an Isis hostage.
And its not just minors who are joining IS as jihadi brides
Khadija, 30, Zohra, 33, and Sugra, 34, left Bradford last summer with their nine children aged between three and 15, to join Isis in June 2015.
Samantha LewthwaiteThe sisters were reported to be joining their brother Ahmed Dawood, who had been fighting with Isis for more than a year when they left.
At the time Akhtar Iqbal, Sugra's husband, made an emotional appeal to his son 14-year-old Junaid, saying: "'If you watch this video, please ring me, please contact me. I love you, all of you. Please, please come back home so we can live a normal life."
But a year later it appeared his two eldest boys had become Islamic State fighters after pictures of them brandishing AK47 assault rifles while wearing ammunition belts surfaced online.
His other son, Ibrahim, also posted a message pledging his allegiance to IS leader Abu Bakr Al Baghdadi and also urged fellow Muslims in the UK to wage jihad back home.
Now no doubt she was radicalised some years before travelling to and joining IS.Dubbed the White Widow, suspected terror mastermind Samantha is still the world's most wanted woman.
The daughter of a British soldier and widow of a 7/7 suicide bomber, the London University graduate disappeared with her children in 2013, after which she was linked to several terror attacks claimed by the Islamic militant group Al-Shabaab.
https://www.google.com.au/amp/s/www.mir ... 999257.ampInterpol issued a Red Notice arrest warrant for her after she was linked to the 2013 Westgate Mall attack in Kenya, which left five Brits and 66 other people dead, and around 200 injured.
Security chiefs believe her other atrocities include the slaughter of 148 people by gunmen at a university in 2015.
In Yemen, she is understood to have recruited female suicide bombers with bribes of _300 - a fortune to desperate families.

Completely understand and agree on all points - but we cannot allow what might be the case to outweigh the actuality of Law, or indeed alter that law retrospectively to fit given cases as we see fit. These are basic tenets of the Rule of Law, and we step onto a very slippery slope when we bend them to fit our will. Even Trump has said that we (and other European countries) must be prepared to take responsibility for the hundreds of ex IS members who traveled from our nations to join the caliphate now being held in US internment camps or under Law he will be forced to release them. (The irony of this in itself is not lost on me Sky, trust me.
). No - due process must be followed here and the right of these people to return coupled with our encumbancy to take responsibility for them will dictate the course of events here on in.

Your hone office is obliged to adhere to the law Pete .. and it will have to determine the best action to take, for the country first and foremost.. and they will be obliged to do whats in the best interests of the girls too ... or at the very least justify the actions they have decided upon.
And the decision will be based on the facts of the case, for each of the women seeking to return to the UK. As administrative decision IS made on a case by case basis.
As to due process, that is and must be accorded .. however some crimes will automatically affect what that means on a case by case basis .. in particular crimes of a terrorist nature. I dont know UK anti terrorist laws, but would imagine they are not dissimilar to ours, in that someone suspected of terrorist involvement can be held without charge for an extended period of time.
And thats significant re habeas corpus and the Westminister system .. as you are denied the automatic right to be brought before a court to answer that charge.
So you then, if dissatisfied with such an approach, you would need to challenge that principle you deem overkill.
And you might have a valid claim .. I wouldnt care to say. As to my mind, such process denial is not inappropriate under certain circumstances.

All administrative decisions are of course appealable. But in her case, its pretty standard practice where she possesses dual citizenship.

Wow - that's an interesting development Sky! I'm sure that the press had reported her as being of single nationality (though it could be my mistake). Her dual nationality places an entirely different slant on the matter. In such circumstances her British nationality should straightways be revoked - in fact it should have been done so long ago - and her Bangladesh homeland have taken up the reins of the problem she represents.

Indeed
.. the downside however, rests on her rehabilitation capability and whether she would receive such assistance on her return to Bangladesh ... or on her further radicalisation.
No win win here.
But in truth a win win was never likely tbh.

I keep reading that people get their news from Facebook.
How does that work exactly?
I never see news posted except for links that other people post?
Is that what "facebook news" means?

hahaha I actually do get news from facebook, but only in the sense that people post things that I may, from there, look into further on actual news sites like cnn or nyt online or the sf chronicle online. I don't watch tv news. I don't read the newspapers anymore. mostly I get the news from my husbands! heh. Ger and Creator. they are pretty hooked in to current events.

I follow a scant few news operations on FB -- the Washington Post, the Denver Post, WTOP News Radio in DC (because I used to work there), ProPublica (nonprofit news organization), and some individual journalists on Twitter. The rest I get from things others have shared.
And I tell you what: Even when you follow news organizations on FB, you're not going to see many of their posts. Not unless you actively read and "like" and comment on them. Or unless you hunt them down by going to their page, not just watching the stuff that scrolls past in your newsfeed. FB has been treating pages (as opposed to normal-people accounts) pretty shabbily over the past few years, requiring them to pay FB money to "boost" posts so more people will see them. It's maddening.

Media is always so skewed in it's bias that it's very important to get your news from multiple and varied sources. I read every headline of every main UK newspaper every day (I sell newspapers for a living so it ain't difficult) and discern many hidden patterns and subtle subterfuges thereby. I also pass comment with five hundred people a day, often buying those very papers and see the pernicious effect of how they are led by the nose, hither and thither wherever those papers will. Televised/radio news tends to hide it's bias better, and can be all the more dangerous thereby in influencing public opinion in the direction desired by it's hidden masters.
The questions always to ask are "why this story, why presented in this way, why now?"
As a case in point, if you cast your eyes further up this thread you will see Sky and me discussing the case of Shemim Begin, recently dominating the headlines and pertaining to a young lady who ran away to join Isis a few years ago and now wants to return. This was a story that at the time was front page news, but had in the intervening years fallen from public memory in the face of more current news. Now a week or so ago, a Times journalist tracks her down, interviews her, and reports that she wants to come home with her new baby. She has, it is reported, no feelings of love for the UK, no remorse over her decision to join a murderous group responsible for the deaths of countless people by beheadings and the like - she simply wants to come home to access the best support and health care for herself and her child, which (in further support of argument put below) the report is at pains to stress that she has no means to pay for.
Cue the predictable outrage, cue the spread of the story to every other right-wing paper - cue the leftwing intellectual hand-wringing and the predictable contempt of the nationalist tabloid media to that!
The whole thing was so utterly predictable from the first small passage on the front of the Times that day, that you'd have to be almost willfully blinkered not to see it. The UK is mired in the Brexit impasse where the leaving process has become increasingly like a train wreck occuring in show motion. In the face of this, serious movements are occurring that threaten to derail the whole process and put the matter back to the people. Immigration, the consequences of, the exodus of asylum seekers to the west, the conflation of the terrorist threat with this - all significant factors in the decision of people to vote leave in the EU referendum.
Now, in the face of this threat to derail the brexit process (by second referendum) all of a sudden the same papers that led the leave campaign clarion call (The Times and The Daily Mail) instigate and propogate a surge of national outrage over an immigrant related issue, fully aware that MPs with a serious eye to their voting constituencies at this critical time, cannot but be influenced by the national mood in the way they cast their own votes on the issue of a brexit extension and a second referendum. The televised news buys into this non-story holding debates in which the rights and wrongs of allowing her back are ping-ponged back and forth, and not the one seems interested to consider why this story - why now. Well if they experienced the surge of outrage in the public that I do - outrage that will easily and simply elide across into generalised anti-muslim, anti-immigrant sentiment which in turn will fuel outrage at any MPs seen to be holding back the Brexit process - then perhaps they would.
Thus is the media used; it's methods subtle and deeply camouflaged, to influence the public mood from a second remove.

Off to Iceland today. Just a short trip away to the North of the island - supposedly pretty rugged and very beautiful. This is my first trip overseas since my operation last year and I'm feeling a bit apprehensive to be honest. Wish me luck guys - see you in a few days.
