Had a look at the Dayton Daily News photos.
What puzzled me was why people living in tornado alley continue to live in wood houses! Wouldn't masonary homes be safer?

Reading about the 2013 Moore OK disaster, with winds of up to 210mph (EF5) puts claim to the fact that masonary homes are no more safer than wood.
Gosh!
Dayton really isn't in Tornado Alley. That more in Texas Kansas, Missouri.
Ohio is about 500 miles to the east. This was a freak storm. Although there have been tornado's in Ohio there has never been one in the Valley that
Dayton sits in.
The EF4 started in a town 15 miles from Dayton's center and was at an
elevation of 1030 feet. Dayton lowest point is 730 feet. There are rolling sub valleys moving downward to the center then upwards toward another town that sits 980 feet that was also hit. My home sit around 850 feet on a slope within Dayton itself.
This tornado(or the group of them) traveled from the Northwest to the southeast. Normally they travel in a northeastern path, so this was not
a normal storm.
Since Dayton's founding (1797) there has been no known record of a
tornado entering the city. This was the first so homes are constructed accordingly. The worse tornado to hit the area was in 1974 in the town of Xenia Ohio. That was an EF5 and it tore up the place massively.
But any tornado usually touches down 10 miles away from the city.
That is why this one was so different.. We have had funnel cloud pass over the top but never touch down.
What's this silver looking ring doing on my finger?

Well, congrats on principle LuciMay, but you'll have to be quit for longer than that to not be a smoker... ;)

Glad you better.

Also, if you have the diacritical thing, you should just be able to hit the back button in your browser, and your post will be there.

Then you can copy and paste it into the diacritics remover thing.

Well done, but you haven't hit the 3 week mark yet. Be careful of that one, because that is when you think it's been long enough that you can have a little puff, and then you back to smoking again. I became very good at quitting (and restarting again) over these past few years. As I said in another thread, I'm nearly at a year since I had any cigarettes, or even one puff. I realized I could never touch one again after I quit, and so far, I've been good. Although I nearly slipped at New Years, but as I got sick, that helped.
To me, it seems like the 3rd month is also the hardest for the same reason the 3rd week is hard. Good luck!

listen linda_

I TOTALLY get why y'all are saying "you're not a non smoker YET" and "you haven't hit the whatever mark yet" and shit like that. I totally get what you're saying but...

for the past year I've been psyching myself up to quit, I've been waiting as far into the day after I get up as I can to not smoke (I got all the way from 7 am to 4 pm exactly once), I've been thinking and saying out loud, if I could just get 24 hours out from a cigarette I will NEVER pick one up ever again. period.
and I mean it.

yesterday I was in the shower, singing at the top of my lungs (as ya do) and I hit notes I haven't hit in 30 years. THIRTY YEARS!! after EIGHT DAYS of not smoking!! only 8 days and my vocal cords are already better. my range is coming back. I wept. I literally stood there in the shower crying. i'm not making this up. naked, wet, and crying.

none of you knows what this means to me.

so I appreciate that you're gonna think what you think and you're gonna dole out the advice (which is all much appreciated) but trust me when I say I will NEVER EVER pick up another cigarette ever again in my life. i'm not getting freaking 9 days out to fail at this shit. not ever again.

Now THAT is an AWESOME result to have from that and something that I don't think anyone would totally guarantee... ya never coulda REALLY known if you hadn't tried, methinks.
