I love my vet - been taking cats to her for... 30 years now. Had to go to a specialist this time around - apparently there's only one veterinary oncologist in this entire city, and she only works two days a week. Anyway, hoping my regular vet can do the actual surgery. The specialist seemed competent, but I wasn't impressed with the office overall - very poor communication.

Time flies when you're having fun. This week has not been fun. Main vet has deemed the surgery too high-risk for her comfort (eek), so I'm back to the specialist, whose office sucks at returning calls. Or emails.

Congratulations, [whatever name I am calling you at the moment].
No, we don't need a fourth IP. I look forward to the new one (an IP is an amazing kitchen appliance, and the new model moves the needle further), but at least one of the existing ones will exit via regift, donation, or other means. Six quart Ultra, then 3 quart Duo, are my nominees.
Keep the 6 quart Duo (my favorite until the EVO seduces me) and the new 6 quart EVO.
One set of rings; all six quart pots!
Uh, am I not in the Galley? Oops...

That has been her FB handle for over a decade, and the name has deeper roots here on the Watch. Use her signature and avatar as clues.Skyweir wrote:Weren't you always Illume Eltanin?
She has been known by many names on the intertubes. While some names no longer represent her so well, Illume is one she still Manifests.

On Facebook I started with my real name, as I believe at the time FB's TOS required it. But, it became apparent from other users I knew that real names were not enforced, so I switched. Illume Eltanin was a name for one of my characters in Gravin Threndor, but it was the first role playing name I totally created on my own for my own character, not a follower. The others were all based on legends or creatures of myth. So, I chose it for my FB persona once I felt FB would allow it.Skyweir wrote:Werent you always Illume Eltanin?Well if not my bad
Congrats on the name change
Other than Menolly here and Illume Eltanin on FB and Twitter, I mostly post on online forums as Gator Pam, due to my long time residency in Gator Town (Gainesville, FL) and my loyalty to the University of Florida Gators.

Thinking I might need to get a second job to pay for cat surgery and whatnot. Really don't want a second job, but I hate being in debt and it's already cost double what I figured as the worst-case-scenario and will go up a few thousand more if she needs chemo.

Sorus, that is terrible... having known a couple of hoomans who went through drastic chemo, the question has to be asked about how worth it it's going to be for kitteh. I watched people I love go through terrible pain and sickness for months... in my Mom's case it was totally worth it, but that was mainly because she was determined to be positive and put on a wig and some lipstick and go do fun stuff and it was her goal not to let on to anyone how crappy her body felt. Cats don't necessarily have that rational choice available to them. It's never easy making decisions for her, and I've had to make them and it sucks because they can't tell you what they would do. May you have wisdom to do what you feel best about. *sniffle*
I realized how long it's been since I darkened the door at the Watch. The weeks have whizzed by. I had my trip to America to get cut open and found out that I am cancer-free, which was really amazing. I have TWO student teachers currently in the classroom, so right now I'm in that sweet spot where they are doing pretty much all the work and I can breathe.
Congratulations Menolly on adding to your IP collection!
I'd love to get used to one, but until Nigeria has electricity on a schedule (asking for constant electricity is way too ambitious) I can't rely on any small appliances. Good think I like cooking with gas.

Pet chemo is actually not as ghastly as human chemo. And fingers crossed that she won't need it. She had her spleen removed earlier this week, and we're waiting on tests to see if it spread to her liver. I feel like we caught it early - thanks to the vet doing tests on a couple of random lumps - had really hoped they were benign because she wasn't acting sick at all, but unfortunately they turned out to be more ominous.
I think her overall quality of life is pretty good right now, and if I can prolong that - even at the cost of a couple of bad days - it seems worthwhile. If it gets to the point where she is suffering, I will make the call.
