Standing desk. Get an adjustable one so you have the option of sitting when you want.

This has been a long week. In addition to cat stuff, I just found out that my main coworker's 'week' off is actually three weeks off. Which means he's had five weeks off this year. Not that I'm keeping score or anything, but I have had zero. I was given next Friday off, but had to give it up because my boss had thought other coworker would be back before then. A 4-day weekend would have been nice, but I didn't have my hopes up for it - something always goes wrong.

I need a new job.

Never apologise for venting. Dude thats actually pretty shit. It annoys me that you dont get leave entitlements when others seem to.

Your employers dont sound like good employers that reward loyalty and personal investment to delivering necessary outcomes.

I kinda want to pushback for you. 🤬

Part of my problem is that I don't push hard enough. But that's because I know I'd come back to a disaster.

It's annoying this time around because we generally aren't allowed any time off at this time of year, but my coworker got someone who was quitting to approve three freakin' weeks. And nobody seemed to notice even though there's a freakin' calendar. It's mind-boggling sometimes. Not to mention the sort of sneaky that I'd never be able to get away with. The reward for working hard is more work.

Its always the way. Some workplaces are good and they take care of their workers and see them as the critical assets they are.

Its ironic really as most businesses take care of their physical equipment cos they need it to deliver and to last .. yet have no similar regard for staff.

Mine was more of a sympathetic "we've noticed". Vent away. This forum was made for it. Don't worry about bogging us down. I skim really long posts. (Not just you. Any really long posts.)

Haha, yeah, vent away, that's why we're here. ;) I get the same feeling as Sky though...want to go make somebody treat you fairly.

Grateful for my job where we really are seen as not only valuable, but crucial elements of the businesses success. We've thrown away big budget clients because they abused staff, stuff like that.

And while we don't have a OHS budget, I could probably get whatever if I needed it and asked for it.

This seems to be more a rhomboid issue though...think it's typing / mouse that's exacerbating it.

Recently, I read a book (a work of memoir) where one family member's behavior towards the others was consistently foolish and harmful.
In book club, we discussed the mystery of why the rest of the family members found it impossible to stick to their limits with her.
One comment was, "When someone would attempt to thwart her will, she was willing to take CRAZY to a WHOLE new level!"

I get the impression that there are elements at Sorus' workplace (possibly people who are on a horizontal level with her, or even below the level she is at in the official hierarchy) who are just "willing to take CRAZY to a whole new level" if crossed!
8O amirite?

One time a family member was working too many hours which were way-too-energy-draining at a tutoring centre.
And so we kept joking, "Do we need to plan an intervention for you?"

So one day we did something (a little) like that.
It was his birthday.
So his two brothers + me + 2-YO child showed up at his workplace at the time when he was officially supposed to be done.
We said it was his birthday, (true) so we were coming to meet him because we were going to out to eat at a restaurant. (true)
And we did.
It was at a Burger King* that shared the same parking lot!

deer- I love that you have 2 teachers-in-training!
Also, ummm, sorry that I didn't say much when you had worries of cancer.
But at least I get to rejoice with you & everyone else that the tests came back saying, "Nay."

Over here, I'm really excited. Even though we're not traveling this Thanksgiving, I am excited about MULTIPLE things.
Our Chinese church is doing a Thanksgiving party as usual.
Usually I've been grouchy that the possibility of "Thanksgiving with family" is disrupted to go to this event.

But this year I'm very excited about the speaker.
I read his book a couple years ago, so I am like, "THAT GUY is coming to speak at our TINY church plant? Whaaaa?!?!?"
And at the other church that we basically stopped going to... (because it was too much) someone invited us to help put up Christmas decorations!
(My thought is, "Yay, someone noticed we'd stopped going, and came up with a SANE way to attempt to re-connect us.")

And I had an appointment with my oncologist yesterday, and we just had a great conversation about everyday life things... which of course made me delighted she was willing to allow time for that because HELLO she's a DOCTOR. She is so kind and has been good to me.
And my mind was flooded with thoughts of how much kindness was poured out on me 5 years ago when I had breast cancer. (The beginnings of dealing with it were about this time of the year.) So thankful.

* A fast food chain. They are probably second to McDonald's here in the U.S. for burger, but I doubt they've spread as much internationally.

I think Khaliban just scrolled through most of this post, whadda you guys think?

Monday again damnit. And this week will no doubt be mad, because all of our clients will realise that if they want to market Black Friday promotions, they should have been getting stuff to us at least a week ago, and will panic.

Oh. Yeah! that's right...
church plant = a small group of people is trying to start a small church somewhere, (often with the support of some larger church) generally renting a building from a school or borrowing space in a more established church's building. (for 1 day a week)

that is really boring-sounding, but, basically two things about our church plant are...
* Since it's so small, you don't know whether you're going to have 30 people or 50 people on a given weekend. That's a huge variation. The smallest Sunday school class size I've had this year was 3 kids, and the largest was like a dozen. otoh, I think bigger churches have a problem like this more often than I'd expect.
* A large percentage of the people who come on Sundays aren't already Christians; they're coming to learn about the faith because they think "there might be something there," or because someone pointed them toward the church, or they want to meet other immigrant families.

It's so weird how we get into our little world and forget it's got its own vocab.

Anyway, my church does parties for holidays; they have a predictable rhythm: potluck, and then singing songs and someone speaking and then a program of that's basically a talent show.

Sometimes I feel really purposeful, welcoming someone, or... there was one Chinese New Year that someone gave me a giant bag of candy "to help the kids feel comfortable" and let me tell you I was VERY happy with the role of GIVING each kid a couple pieces of candy and organizing activities for them.
The times when I don't feel really purposeful are much less fun.

This time of year, when there's not a lot of wildlife biology work to be done (because it's not the breeding season for many animals where I live), I make my way in live doing banquet events, or serving food to people in a holiday setting.
Tomorrow being Thanksgiving Day in the United States, that means I'm going to be working at a local casino restaurant serving a lot of gambling guests their holiday meal. It will mean eight hours of some incredible physical hustling, with lots of heavy trays to carry, but the money's good (especially the tips), so I can't turn it down. I'm headed to bed now, in preparation for a very busy day! :Z:
