This seems to be a better url at the moment: https://pteo.paranoiaworks.mobi/diacriticsremover/
But what's going on??? I hit Quote on a post here on the Watch, and I have to take that quote there to have diacritics removed! How is it possible that it posted, but cannot be quoted?? Happens every time I try quoting a post here.

If anyone sees that happen, could you please show me the post that couldn't be quoted? I'd like to investigate it. But it's never happened to me.
The only way that I have seen this happen is that someone uses an HTML code to slip am unacceptable character past the PHPBB2 validator. When you quote the post, you get the bad character instead of the HTML code. I wrote about this in my base post.
I am wondering what other condition can cause the issue.
I have seen some changes in the behavior within the last month or so. When you use preview, you get a blank post instead of a 406 error page.

But yes, it's as you describe in your last paragraph:
Quote
Preview
Blank
I had to go to https://pteo.paranoiaworks.mobi/diacriticsremover/ and remove diacritics.

The issue in Z's post is the apostrophe in "person's" Not sure how he got that apostrophe accepted in his post, but it fails on quoting the post.

Dunno why, but nonetheless, it is sooth.
However …
Yet, Submit that selfsame post, and s'all good.
Tru dat. One can now (once again) post diacritics without using HTML codes.Avatar wrote:Dunno if I've been posting quotes from other sources less, but I've actually hardly had any 406's lately.

If one Previews a post with diacritics, it will come up blank.wayfriend wrote:[…]

Ah. That makes sense. If the checks are disabled for posting, but the same changes were not made for the preview code, diacritics would still fail when previewing.
Ideally, I'd prefer that both processing flows operate by the same rules, but...reality.
Best practices for those not seeking to passive-aggressively make their posts inconvenient to quote would be to use Preview to assure that no diacritic errors lurk, rather than just trust your typography and go straight to Submit.

I did not know that. Very interesting ...Wosbald wrote:Yet, Submit that selfsame post, and s'all good.
That seems to be the cause, and it explains the mystery.Savor Dam wrote:The issue in Z's post is the apostrophe in "person's" Not sure how he got that apostrophe accepted in his post, but it fails on quoting the post.
But it leads to another mystery ... how do you get the leaning apostrophe when typing more or less normally, without pressing ALT+0+1+4+7?
