Damn, 03h30 in the morning for Zoom for me? That's rough.
Quick one for thoughts though guys, (I already asked Linna this in PM), are we rushing this too much?
Should we plan much further in advance and give people the opportunity to arrange their schedules accordingly?
(You know, so they can tell people later "Oh sorry, not available" instead of trying to fit into stuff they already have planned?)

It's a fair point! Interested in thoughts from others.Avatar wrote:Damn, 03h30 in the morning for Zoom for me? That's rough.

There are all sorts of people who would love and value an E-Fest & who are left out of this conversation.
Possible con:
If we postpone, I think we will need to wait until at least the 2nd weekend of September. ( 9/7 - 9/8 )
BUT, since I hate saying one thing and then not following through, I'm going to just throw this out there:
I'll have a Google Meet tomorrow (Noon-1pm PT, 7-8pm GMT) for anyone who wants to come.
It will not be an E-Fest, just a chance to hangout & visit with Watchers.
(Maybe I can get ideas for E-Fest from whoever comes!)
No; of course not.sgt.null wrote:now I have to calculate central time?
But I might have to* instead, and I'm not sure if you really want that!
* I missed the Zoom WEDDING of one of the young women who was in our youth group 10 years ago.
By almost exactly 2 hours.
Because I added 1hr when I was supposed to subtract.
This is not to say you guys shouldn't trust me as a reliable human being.
Just, have 3-5 people check me on Time Zone calculations!
Because, as old-skool computer programmers used to say, "given a sufficient number of eyeballs, all bugs are small."

Hah, will it just make the forum a totally deserted wasteland?
(Where was it noisy, Luke? Like, which sub-forums? Inquiring minds want to know!)

That's exactly right!
I want you to know your assessment of the decision-making MADE MY DAY, Cags.
I am delighted.
I'll message you the Google Meet info!
Pass it on to your sis (aka CJ) as well, Cags?
Announcement: Anyone who wants to come hang out on Google Meet tomorrow can PM me for Google Meet info.

Excellent solution Those already eager can join, and those not prepared might be ready later - I just barely caught this info, could easily miss it if not for the Gap dissections.
Also two time slots already means more people are likely to join at least one
So I understand the links aren't sent out to all Watcher accounts, and everyone who wants to join has to fetch the link from you or someone else who already has it, right?
If I understand correctly the links are not individual, so anyone can pass the link in a private message or email when inviting someone (but not place it somewhere public) - is that correct? Thank you!

And really, there are so many people who are a major part of the Watch who probably didn't see this discussion... we need to fix that!
Hanging out together on Saturday really isn't going to be "the Real Thing."
Just a fun little visit. =)
(I'm hoping maybe we can pool together our ideas FOR planning e-Elohimfest!)

Thinking of inviting Iolanthe? Shaun Das Schaf? Ananda?
If so, go for it!!
Yes, please!Effy wrote:If I understand correctly the links are not individual, so anyone can pass the link in a private message or email when inviting someone (but not place it somewhere public) - is that correct? Thank you!
That is exactly how I want us to do our policy!!
Thanks for asking these things, Effy!
Take care!

This is a useful time zone converter link
https://www.worldtimebuddy.com
Which I might add confirms Linna's advice as to MY time zone
So I can attest to Linna's timezone capability and reliability

With over an hour to spare!
So you're in, right?
We're not perfect.
But by the time we get to the actual e-E-fest, we're gonna be awesome!

I just got the email too but already knew about the meeting tonight via messenger. Went in at 7 - an hour early. We are in British Summer Time so an hour ahead.
Had my first zoom meeting today too. 9 of us on the Executive Committee of the Lincolnshire Family History Society and I was able to do the minutes (mostly). Someone else has also done some so they can fill in the bits I missed.
Our first meeting since February.
I won't be travelling to ABQ again, although I'd love to. This seems a good alternative.
See some of you in about half an hour's time.

I am playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order!

Great job Linna for organising it!
I really enjoyed myself - it worked pretty well overall. So, as far as I can recall we had:
Iolanthe, Leper Fairy, Damelon, Aliantha, Frosty, Effy, Linna, StevieG, dlbpharmd, Cagliostro, danlo and Sky. Did I miss anyone?
Great to meet you all
Oh, and awesome accents everyone!

Thanks to everyone who joined and especially to Linna
It was really incredible to see and talk to people I knew for many years, but in writing only
By the way, I know this one was more like unofficial, but for the actual E-fest it will be really good to set up video recording as discussed upthread, for people who won't be able to attend, and as a reminder for later

Damn I can't believe I missed all this...gutted.
Took my week off from work and just blanked on everything...Sorry.
So, how we feeling about making the full-on meeting much later, like in a month or 2 so people can plan around it?
I'm fine with waiting, would rather have as many people as possible.
