Still not come to terms with being "back" at work.

Well I was enjoying not being at work despite the massive amount if pain. Until two hurricsnes showed up in the gulf.

By all accounts the first looks to be bad, but hitting Louisiana mostly. I'm praying its not as severe as they are predicting.

Yesterday I had a six month diabetes follow up visit with my primary care physician. My PCP of five years retired in December. I go to a clinic which trains resident MDs, and had new residents every two years, due to them finishing their training and moving on with their careers. Finally, I was turned over to a long term nurse practitioner in my practice, who was wonderful! He was my PCP for the last five years, and was the one who sent me for testing for my chronic myeloid leukemia, which no one else had picked up on.

Unfortunately, he retired in December, so I had my first visit with my new primary in December. Because of doing dirty/lazy keto, my A1C came back at 5.2, and had been steadily dropping for a good year prior to that. I was on 500 MG of metformin twice a day, as well as a dose of glibizide. I asked my former PCP if the dose could be titrated back, or even eliminated, but he was of the mind set of, "It's working for you. If it's not broke, let's not fix it."

When I saw the new PCP in February, who was also supposed to be a long term MD, and not a resident, he was open to taking me off the medication and retesting me to see how well my eating controlled my diabetes.

Well, my eating hasn't gone back to being totally carb laden, but I haven't been as strict as I should. My endocrinologist recently changed my levothyroxine dosage, and between my eating habits, the metabolism change caused by the change in the levothyroxine, and my own very sedentary habits, especially since the pandemic hit, I have put on 10 lbs. I honestly expected my A1C to come back in the high 6 to 7 range, and to be put back on metformin, if not both metformin and glibizide.

It came back at 5.8. Woo-hoo! Still higher than a non-diabetic, but definitely acceptable for a Type II diabetic. My PCP left the clinic to serve COVID patients, and I'm back with a new to me resident. However, she and I decided to see if I can regain control of my eating, lose more weight, and get my A1C numbers to drop back down without reintroducing the medication. We'll see how I'm doing at my next follow up.

Menolly, I had to look up CML, which I had forgotten what it was... so glad you are doing well.

I realized recently that your move to NM means next summer when I'm in Richmond I won't be able to go in to DC and take you out to lunch... something I've been planning on for a couple of years. Waaaahhh... But, NM, good move!! And your apartment looks beautiful.

I realized yesterday I'm a year and a half from 60. Wow.

And if I get a good night's sleep I can still be superwoman! Insomnia is my kryptonite.

Yes, it's been a long week.

Started the day with a cat who was uninterested in her breakfast (unheard of and worrying) - figured I'd have to come home and take her to the vet, which is fun with COVID and whatnot. Fortunately she was interested in her dinner, and when I was cleaning I found an empty treat package shoved behind their litter box. No wonder she didn't want breakfast; she had an entire bag of freeze-dried shrimp for a midnight snack. Fairly impressed by the way she hid the evidence.

deer, I think you're combining ali and me. I'm the three time cancer thriver, and moved to the Eastside of Seattle back in 2012. ali recently retired and moved from DC to Santa Fe.

I got to watch my nieces wedding via zoom lol .. it was a lovely ceremony but not the same as being there.

Could be you have a neighbor who doesn't like them. Some people think it's unnatural for cats to wear them and remove them if they come across a cat with one on. We used to come across it in the vets from time to time.

My kitty has managed to lose her collar...for the third time in the past few months.

From my experience with kitties they are very astute remover of collars and bells. With all the wildlife we have here ... Iam forever buy i g bells and collars. The little rascals can escape most of my trappings.

Yeah, mine are all in "break-away" collars so they can't get too stuck on it, and they get replaced regularly...I cut the bells off and keep them, have probably gone through 30 in the last few years, mostly my ginger 'cause he loses them in fights.

yes my ginger was a wide explorer .. we named him Dora because of it .. when he was a wee bairn but before we sexed him

I buy bags of bells and am always attaching them to their collars.

Lachie my black (actually dark brown) kitty is the youngest and a rescue from a hessian bag dumped behind a wood shed with 6 other little wrigglers.

I have a huge bird collar on him. Its a soft colourful material colour much like a elizabethan collar but wider. This is because he is my ace predator .. and we have too many beautiful native birds, rosellas, parakeets, galahs ans cockatoos that I just hate seeing them kill. plus possums.

But the little bastard has learned to stalk sooo carefully as not to rattle his bells lol so occassionally he does get one.

Well traveling the hour to and hour back from Houston. And the talking off of the cast, lots of dried blood. Then pulling of the stitches. Took out more of me than I thought. Came home , ate dinner and went to bed before 8pm. Such is life.

That's kind of where I'm at right now. I had a big project planned for this weekend - repainting and building my new desk and whatnot. I know I'll be okay once I get started, but right now I'm just stuck in the meh stage.
