 I'm not sure that I actually do have a wonky eye Sky - but I definitely have a tendency to hold my head at an angle. All of my photographs down through the decades tend to show me with my head tilted even though I'm never aware of doing so. I have one eye that is very poorly functioning and often wonder if I tilt my head in some form of compensation for this? I wish I'd been there when the guy chose to engage in a battle of personal attack on my image. I'd have taught him a lesson in good manners - or bad!

I get told that my ID pic makes me look angry. Nope, that's just the neutral setting for my face. People can be pretty freakin' judgemental though.

Far too many stateside TSA agents are habituated to USA-normal "smiling" passport / ID photos. This is not the worldwide norm, and a neutral expression is actually more useful to human agents comparing a photo to the person in front of them.

Entirely a different set of considerations for facial recognition AI. Not commenting further on that.

....... which apparently is set to be introduced across the UK on a large scale as we speak. That'll make a nice adjunct to being the already most CCTV covered nation on earth. Time to get my V mask perhaps; I wonder if they'll accept that on my next passport application?

 I'm afraid it would take more than those to hide my mug from detection Av, but I love the artistry of the designs and would be more than happy to see such interesting developments spreading to wider usage - just not because of that particular cause!

Perhaps the obligation to smile at the immigration desk in an airport might be a good thing - at what point is a smile (given with the right intention) ever going to make the world a worse place? ;)

Who knows Sky; if I win the lottery expect a knock on your front door within a short passage of time. We non-symetricals must stick together you know!

I was asked if I had found Jesus by a well dressed man with a Jamaican accent while I was on a walk near Paddington Station in London. I was shocked because all the walking I’d done in Chicago over the years; no one had ever asked me that question. And I get asked that in London after 3 days.

There is probably a higher percentage of people with religious belief within the coloured population of the UK than within the white Damelon. (At least I'm assuming that the gentleman was coloured.) Tempted to ask what you were doing walking near Paddington Station, but that would be indiscreet. Not the most salubrious part of our capital; I hope you got to see some of the better bits as well.

That was my base of operations, peter. My hotel was a couple of blocks walk from there. Found a good pub, the Cleveland Arms, to unwind from the days adventures. I did the usual touristy things. Went to the British Museum, found the Rosetta Stone by the huge crowd gathered around it. Walked down Whitehall to Trafalgar Square, wandered Hyde Park, watched a 21 gun salute to a visiting emir from the UAE at the Tower. I was astounded by the color of a garden near Buckingham Palace. It was late April when I was there and it looked like a lake of brilliant yellow and reds.

Possibly my favourite time of year in London Damelon.

I lived in the capital for three years as a student and know it tolerably well. Spring gardens are a fairly common thing in the UK generally, even more so in the South West where I hail from.

I looked like a moonshine runner on my last work I.D. Long grey beard, tartan shirt. Was kind of proud of it.

In New york, we have to renew our license every 8 years. When we do, they ask, "Do you want to take a new picture, or just use the same one?" Not wanting to bother, I just use the same one the last two times I renewed. So the picture is 22 years old. Gotten to the point where people question whether it's really me. Can't blame them. It's a stupid system.

Wow, eight years between drivers license renewals. Illinois is four years and they take a picture each time. It got me thinking, then it ticked me off when I looked it up. Wisconsin, Iowa and Texas are eight years between drivers license renewals while Indiana and Missouri are six years. California is five. Michigan and Minnesota are with Illinois at four years. Any way to nick a few extra bucks off ya, even if it’s over years, and Illinois finds it.

I haven't renewed my licence in what? 25 years. Even then it was only because paper ones became illegal and you had to get a photo ID licence.

No one seems to bother that much over here.

I just renewed mine for 5 years. We can choose to renew for 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 years, and whether to use an existing photo. By the time my license comes up for renewal again, my photo will be 15 years old. I think they force you to take a new photo eventually.

Have to renew it every 5 years here, and have to supply a new picture each time. (And take an eye test.) Mine expired during the first lock-down, but they gave an extension, the last extension of which ended in May this year.

So technically I'm driving with an expired card. (Only the card expires though, not the license.) Really need to go and renew it, but haven't got around to it yet. Courting a fine if they stop me... :D
