LOL!! Well..... Yeah, you're right. About all that. I just liked seeing McCoy's history. And the "You're not alone" idea was good. I liked it when the Silver Surfer heard it, when Angel heard it, and when Kirk heard it. :D

I also like hearing the other words for Eden. Which I'll spell phonetically, from a distant memory: Shakari and Vor Ta Vor.

I'm glad to see there are other people who can get enjoyment from ST V. The one I shudder at is ST VI, with the Federation sacrificing Kirk et al as part of a treaty. Gene Roddenberry's Federation would never have done that.

Actually ST VI is one of my favorites. I guess I just love the story overall. But even though Kim Cattrall is HOT she made a terrible Vulcan. They should have brought back Saavik for that.

I agree with you Tom about ST V - the worst part is Scotty knocking himself out. James Doohan said that scene made him angry at Shatner for years afterwards. Shatner is an idiot, IMO. And just where did the Scotty/Uhura relationship come from? And Sulu getting lost? Ridiculous!

I absolutely despise ST: Insurrection, so much so that I refuse to buy it. I hate Nemesis as well. I won't buy it either.

Another vote for the original. The other series may have had better actors and SFX but the original is just more fun and sexier. TOS also wasn't hamstrung by the political correctness of the other series.

TOS captured the joy and wonder of exploring space. The other series made it seem like any other job - like the ones we do today.

Well said, OD. I think you nailed the problem with the other Treks pretty well. Though I love them all in different ways, TOS seemed to capture the sense of wonder and adventure of space exploration in a way that would be very hard to duplicate. :D

Thanks Tom. BTW I'm surprised at the results. I would have thought TNG and DS9 would have been ahead of TOS.

Oh another reason I like TOS! They had the coolest handphasers. The newer ones look too much like dustbusters!

Old Darth's comment about the handphasers reminds me of another thing. In ST: The Motion Picture, the Enterprise crew used wristband communicators. Makes sense: miniaturization of technology. But in ST II, for some unfathomable reason, they go back to using passé handheld communicators. That's progress?

I can understand why Nicolas Meyer decieded to return to the hand held communicators. It had a lot to do with the manner in which Star Trek I was recieved by most fans. Meyer admits that he knew almost nothing about Star Trek when he took the job. The great part is that he almost instantly got what Star Trek was about and understood what needed to be done to restore much of what was arguably wrong with the first film in regard to being faithful to the original "feel". Maybe he didn't have to go as far as he did but I understand the thought of "We gotta have Kirk flip his communicator like he use to." :-)

As far as the hand phasers, even the orginal series had its Phaser type I weapon which was just a small palm size box unit. The genius of the designers is that the orginal phaser II pistol was a combination of the phaser I and a pistol grip cradle. Presumably the pistol grip assembly housed additional power cells to give the weapon a higher capability.
