From all of the internet rumors, it sounds somewhat firm that Jordan is making a big push to wrap this thing up. The next book, Knife of Dreams is supposed be out in 2005, and the book after that, which is reportedly the last book of the series, will supposedly be out in 2007. 
Then he will reportedly write the two other prequels...

yeah, in an interview, he said he only intended to write 6 books...and now its 12...he said hopefully only two more...but..i hope its 3...i love the series...cant get enough of it...
but...20 years IS quite awhile to focus on one series...

I tried reading book 4, trudged my way through about 120 pages, and finally gave up (I was having to look in the glossary 2 or 3 times per page to catch on to what I was reading). Maybe it would've been better had I started from Book 1, and got to know the universe

Personally, I liked the Wheel of Time books - up until book 5, more or less... the later books seem to me like they were an attempt to lengthen the story by slowing down the pace (not to mention the fact that the characters are so spread over the whole land now, that each of them gets only a handful of chapters per book). Oh, there are interesting parts on the later books, but the books on a whole are somewhat lacking, I feel. The only book that seemed to reverse the trend was book 9, but book 10 left me with the feeling there was nothing really new in it (and little or no plot advancement)... Of course, these are just my opinions here
