Meh, after reading Robert Jordan for almost ten years now, you get used to it. He averages a new book about once every 2 years, and it's a terrible wait, considering the scope of the Wheel Of Time series. Also count in the fact that I usually eat up his books in about a week or so, then have a 2 year wait, I'm used to it.
Luckily I have plenty to read. I'm re-reading both Chrons before I finish Runes. I started it, got about 100 or so pages into it and realized that I really needed to re-read the rest of the series. So I'm doing that now. Then it's on to the Mordant's Need books. By then either George R.R. Marting or Robert Jordan should have a new book out. I suppose I could re-read the Gap series again as well.
Wow, that was pointless! Sorry. Yeah, 3 years is a heckuva wait, but something tells me it won't be that long. Remember, he's only said that he's contracted for one book every three years. Doesn't necessarily mean it's going to take him that long.

Also remember that the three years for "Fatal Revenant" started several months ago: he says in the GI that his publishers "stole" about six months from that time with all the projects they had him work on to promote "Runes" (such as the 7500 signed copies, the essays, etc).
HOWEVER, three years is the time he is given to WRITE the book; then you have to add publication times. So yes, I suppose we'll get it sometime in 2006-2007...

Yeah, between Jordan and Rowling, I've become used to long waits. It will, of course, give us oodles of time to speculate...

It would appear that SRD turned down an offer of greater money so that he could take 36 months to complete each of the books in the Quadrilogy...That means that we have a wait of 12 years until we get to the very end...that's 2016, people. Work starte don the 2nd book, Fatal Revenant in April, but has halted now *sigh*

And it's not like GRRM has as many balls to keep in the air as SRD, considering Martin's penchant for killing off his main characters....

I will now say the same thing about Donaldson that I do about Martin -- I am willing to wait however long it takes if it means it will be a high quality, engrossing story.
Creativity does not always happen on a neat, tidy schedule.
And don't people feel like they might be rushing the gun a bit here? Runes isn't even out in all parts of the world yet.
Give the man time to work.

new series
Hi everyone, I cant believe we have to wait 3 years for the next book! Anyways I am looking for something new to read. (i have read TCOTC too many times to count, and the same thing for WOT. I have read all the shannara books(it passes the time) as well as the mordant need series and gap series. And of course LOTR.) Any suggestions for a series at least on par with WOT?(obviously nothing compares to SRD) I want to read his mystery series but I havent been able to find them anywhere!!

brinn18 - Lots of stuff in the Gen Sci-Fi and Fantasy forum, for example:
Favourite books/series
Favourite non-SRD Fantasy
Writers to avoid
I was also looking for a couple of good 'recommendation' threads from earlier this year, but couldn't find them.
