Tried answering it as closely as I could, then saw the answer, then went back and changed a few to other close/alternate choices, saw the same answer, went back and changed several answers again to other things I'd write, went back, and I still got

I just can't escape Donaldson's influence!

I did actually write a fantasy novel some years ago, and so I answered based on that manuscript. Turns out I'd write Gormanghast. Hmm, looks like I really do have to read it now....

Oh, cool. I love these books!

Mervyn Peake's fantasy series is like Dickens on morphine, a surreal landscape of one gigantic castle--Gormenghast--the size of a city that is its own society, nation, world. Here is born Titus, Earl of Groan, the boy destined to rule (or be ruled) by the vast castle and its rituals.
Halfway down the stairs Is the stair where I sit. There isn't any other stair quite like it. I'm not at the bottom, I'm not at the top; So this is the stair where I always stop.

I saw the tv adaptation of Gormenghast, and it was pretty good. I've been meaning to read the books ever since.

Stephen R. Donaldson's story of a leper drawn against his will into The Land, where he is taken as great hero reborn, fated to defeat the dread Lord Foul, an incarnation of all self-hatred.
