Bur[d] an' [d]bare
The d's are heavily emphasized, and at the same time very short and blunt. The first part, "bird" being pronounced quickly, with a sudden and emphatic stop at the d, "an" is pronounced entirely separately, creating almost a glottal stop before going on to the final part of the word - "dbear," which is pronounced exactly like "bird," only backwards. The db is a sort of hybridized consonant sound in which both sounds are hit with equal (hard) emphasis, and the rest of the letters just trail along behind, wondering what exactly all the fuss is.....
Any questions?
Oh, as to where it comes from, if you've read up to Wizard and Glass, in The Dark Tower, well you know, don't you? And if you haven't, you don't, and probably don't care, except that it's a reference to The Dark Tower, which I've already told you.

Loremaster - LOR-mah-star
I changed from Ur-Vile to Loremaster to reflect that I am heading into a research Phd. As in an ur-vile graduating to become a loremaster.

Pronunciation is obvious, origination is probably from my otherwise strictly controlled egomaniacal tendencies. My old title used to be a definition of it, but I changed it to something more suitable

It's also the name I use on the only other two forums that I participate on regularly. (Not as regularly as here though.)

As with many other people here, the origin and pronunciation of my name should be obvious. The first time I tried to use ur-Lord as a username, they didn't allow hyphens, so it became UrLord. Now I use this form...everywhere. Except when some other guy takes it
and I have to go with the alternate form The_UrLord. This is probably the only place where people would jump to the correct conclusion of the meaning/pronunciation of my name...most people tend to think it means (and is pronounced) "Your Lord," and that I'm using that abominable chatspeak.

Anyone perfect must be lying, anything easy has its cost, anyone plain can be lovely, anyone loved can be lost.

dlbpharmd: The Lady Tam and I simply refer to you as the "Doctor".
dan-lo (low) when I joined the Watch, about 4 years ago, I was finishing up the trilogy that follows Neverness: A Requiem for Homo Sapiens. Danlo wi Soil Ringess is the main character (born of the wild and goes through a ton suffering). I originally considered Mallory, the main character of Neverness-but considering what happens to him in the book- thought it a bit persumptous. Besides it's also a name of a writer and if it were confused with Eddings then I might become ill...
Danlo is quite the inquisitive, tough and humble guy--and for me, 2 out of 3 ain't bad!
(huh Darth!) I originally considered using Baradakas on the Watch, but lately Lord Verement sounds cooler...

Just one... What the hell?! You can pronounce it how you like, but to me it's just three simple wordsbirdandbear wrote:Bur[d] an' [d]bare

As for username, pronunciation is obvious. As for the origin: At the time I discovered Kevin's Watch, everyone except Danlo and MsMaryMalone had Chronicles-themed names (Skyweir, Amanibhavam, Lord Mhoram 8, etc) so I tried to think of a suitable one. At that point, I was 20 years old, and I thought Roger Covenant would have to be a young man by now; but I couldn't call myself Roger Covenant (dull) or just Roger (people might think it's my real name) so I went for a slightly silly variation. Seemed like a good idea at the time, and I had no idea I'd be stuck with it for so long...

You mean Roger is not your real name?

Holy Cow - you should record yourself saying your username and get Vain to post it here, so we can hear it straight from you.Bur[d] an' [d]bare
