Hmmm, Apocolypse Now goes downhill the moment Robert Duval exuants for the last time.

Eh, Duvall was definitely a highlight, but I loved every minute of the movie. Then again, I am biased; it's in my top 3, next to Clockwork Orange and Seven Samurai.

I liked the Big Red One, Stalag 17, Kelly's Heroes, Schinldler's List and Saving Private Ryan best. Then I saw The Last Samarai, and liked it just as much. I also liked Midway, Tora Tora Tora, 60 Seconds Over Tokyo, Patten, Memphis Belle.....as you can see, I like WW II movies a lot. Still, I can't wait for the Thermopylae movie to be made.

I loved Branaugh's Henry V as well as McKlellan's Richard III.

And I agree about The Two Towers as well as The Return of the King.

Other personal faves...The Enemy Below and Patton. Although wildly fictional, In Harm's Way is a great movie. I strongly recommend Tora! Tora! Tora! as the best Pearl Harbor movie ever (so far). Then there's Von Ryan's Express and Lawrence of Arabia and Fail Safe.

Moving in the other direction, Aliens is very good indeed. So is the made-for-tv film In The Beginning.

Holy crap, I forgot about the Seven Samurai. It's on a small scale, but I think it definitely qualifies as a war movie, at least in spirit.

But I wouldn't call the Magnificent Seven a war movie... I guess that's because I felt that the aforementioned movie was a cheap, Hollywood take on a much more beautiful movie. Too much Glitz and western Cliché.

Yeah, Daas Boot is awesome. But are you talking about the original or the remake?

When was the remake done? Im talking about directors cut Das Boot with Jurgen Protchnouw (sp?)

It's more likely you were talking about the remake that was made in the 80's. The original is very old, from the 40's I think.

Ah, haven't seen the original then, but i really enjoyed the remake.
