Spoilers?

Okay, guys...need some help. Do you think I should worry about hiding possible spoilers in here? If so, please tell me which books I should worry about. The spoiler issue is being discussed in the "Announcements..." forum, so I thought I'd get this figured out before there's a debate about it here. Anyway, I'm leaving this up to you guys, 'cause I have no idea how much everyone else has read. Obviously, when the next book comes out I'll be watching for those spoilers...but in the meantime, what do you think? (when we've decided, please use the results as a guideline when you're posting)

I've read up to book 8, so I pretty much cant be spoiled. But for those that have only just started, well they will have things spoiled for them (judging by the threads here).

Difficult choice. As LM says, this whole forum is pretty much made up of spoilers for those who haven't read them all. I'm not sure there is any way around it, practically speaking.

Perhaps the only answer is to put a spoiler warning in the forum title, as with the Runes forum?

Not sure. Hunting down and hiding all the spoilers will be a massive task.

Well, you definately don't have to worry about Book 10. Nothing happened in it! Ha! Heh.

I'd say the only thing really worth putting spoiler tags around is the big event at the end of Book 9. Besides that, I think it's safe to assume that people here have read most of the series. If they didn't, then we should just try to make sure that we keep discussion consistant with the title. If a person starts a title of a topic with "I just finished Book 3", then you know, don't post spoilers in there, heh. However if the title of the topic is "Wow, Book 10 sucked", I think it's safe to say that people who havn't read it yet will stay away.

Er, I donno. Just ranting. Basically, I think we just need to use causion and use our heads on what to put in spoiler tags.-jay

What about topics called 'Who Killed...?'
Then again, I don't think you can go to any WoT discussion board and not see that question asked somewhere, whether you're avoiding spoilers or not...

It's a hard one question. Some people might have just started the series, or be halfway done with it -- but, on the other hand, the earlier books have been out now for many years.

I guess I would say, perhaps just the latest book -- and of course, Knife of Dreams when it is released?

Sort of going by the Thomas Covenant forums here, and what we use spoiler tags for there. But if you decide to be more restrictive, it won't bother me.

Perhaps also, the thread titles could be edited a bit, if and where possible, to reflect what book a particular topic comes from? That way people could avoid a thread if its from a book later than what they have read up to? (And it would be a lot less work than editing everything to put in spoiler tags post by post).

As have I, with the exception of the full length New Spring, though I read the shorter version of it. But I also know that spoilers can be very upsetting to people who have not read a book yet.

Okay...how's this for a spoiler policy?

~ Posts: Hide spoilers in posts for the two most recent WoT books published (right now this would include New Spring and Crossroads of Twilight), unless you've already warned about spoilers for those books in the Topic Title (see below). Also, if there's a major plot point you're worried about spoiling for someone, you could hide that, too...but maybe put "(book 6 spoiler)" before it or something, so we know it's not from the last two...I dunno...I'll trust your own judgement on that one..

~ For topic titles: Spoiler warnings for book five-on if you know such spoilers will be discussed about a specific book(s). When Knife of Dreams is released, we'll make it book 6, etc...obviously, there are times when we just can't predict what will be talked about, but if it's REALLY obvious...well, you know what I mean.
Avoid spoilers in topic titles...the "Who killed...?" thread would be a good example of the way I'd like it. *(Don't mean to pick on your thread, Darth

I needed an example, though)

I'll try to keep an eye on this, but PM me if there's something I've missed that you think I should attend to...lemme know what you think of this...

Sounds fine...my problem will be keeping everything from the earlier books straight. I read them awhile ago, and they've all sort of run together in my mind.

I know what you mean...if you can't remember and you know there'll be a major spoiler...I dunno....maybe just a general spoiler warning in the title. I don't think we need to worry too much about the early books.

Well, internet rumors say the next one, Knife of Dreams, will have a lot of action in it. I have no idea if that is true or wishful thinking, though. (shrugs)
