Hmmm....

In Wounded Land, Gibbon alludes to an old legend that "a nameless periapt" lies at the bottom of Glimmermere and sustains it against the Sunbane.

Theoretically, if Glimmermere had Earthpower in it, wouldn't it have suffered the same ill effects from Foul's corruption of the Earthpower? If the krill hadn't been there to protect it, Glimmermere would probably either have dried up under a desert sun or turned into a sewer due to Foul's influence.

But the fact is, it did not dry up. It is still there in WGW, and is the same as when Elena first took Covenant to see it in TIW.

Exactly. Its like alanthia and Andelain. They are are examples of Law under seige. If Covenant was never summoned (Say, he decided that he did not owe his X that much and walked away from the fire eventualy the Sunbane would have prevailed.

Don't hold your breath for seeing the Krill in action again, the above quote is prettry specific.

I would even add that the Krill had to be destroyed. It was an istrument of Law (the old Law based on the original Staff). When it was used to break the Law of Life, the last artifact of the Old Lord's legacy was also broken to make way for the new Law that Linden put forth. The old Staff and the Krill were artifical constructs, while the new Staff was a livinig thing perhaps the two would not coexist well.

Also note, that in thirty-five centuries that stump would have rotted to dust several times over. And then leaves fell on it, and they rotted away, and the grass grew, ...

The krill is either there in Andelain, probably under several feet of dirt, or it was recovered at some point and is now in Revelstone. Given that Sunder and Hollian seem to have removed to Mithil Stonedown (and hence presumably fixed their problem with having to stay in Andelain because of the Earthpower there), and that Anele never mentions the krill, I expect they left it behind.

After all, their job was to heal the Land with the Staff of Law, not to fight against its enemies. They didn't need the krill, and the Haruchai probably would not have picked it up.

Guess we'll have to wait and see...
Choiceless, you were given the power of choice. I elected you for the Land but did not compel you to serve my purpose in the Land... Only thus could I preserve the integrity of my creation.

I think we will see the krill again - especially since the Demondim have re-emerged as a threat to the Land.

The "beyond all hope of recovery" statement was probably meant to indicate in WGW that Loric's blade had served its purpose and was about to pass from the story. (If it was ME in Andelain, I would have restarted the gem with the white gold ring, ripped it out of the trunk, and have taken it with me to Mount Thunder to use against Cavewights, ur-viles, or worse...)

I don't believe that it means the krill was destroyed, or had lost its usefulness. All that needs to be done is to find the krill, restart the gem, and continue to use it against evil.

I meant destroyed as a power. By the time of Runes it has probably crumbled to dust.

I hope we don't see it again! It would mean that SRD has run out of ideas. This time Linden goes to Andelain and Loric's Krill rises out of the dirt in a swirlling dust cloud.

IMHO, the Krill is dead... it's power was used up as a part of the breaking of the Law of Life. If it still was potent, the light would not have gone out of the gem. The only thing that seem to put it back to sleep was TC returning to his world, removing the white gold from the Earth.

Besides if it was still potent, you would not need WG to activate. Loric had no WG, niether did Kevin. Morham was able to get a flicker of a response from the Krill and when he pitched it into the lake it flashed once in response to the Earthpower.

No, the Krill is done, I would put money on it.

In every case, the Krill preserved / protected the medium it was left. My guess is that stump is probably still in good shape - unless its magical properties are gone.

When TC "put" the krill in the stone table, Mhoram was asked why not just destroy the table to retrieve the krill. He replied something like, it needed to be removed in such a way so as not to destroy the medium, otherwise some important lore or wisdom would not be earned.

My question is what inherent properties made it effective against the Demondim and would those properties still be available now - it played a major part in breaking the Law of Life and that might have stripped it of its magical properties.
But hear then, for good or ill. I fulfill the law of my creation. My maker can require no more of me.

Gambling on the krill! I love it!!

Of course, my money is on the return of the krill, with new and interesting capabilities.

Maybe wwe will find other tools of the old Lords.
There was Bereks's Staff...Kevins's wards...Loric's Krill, what about Damelon? If he was able to befriend the giants, and get Revelstone built, he might have made himself a neat little tool too! I mean other than the Doorway into Earthroot.

I hope not! One thing we have seen in the first six books is a gradual degradation of Law and the systematic destruction of the Old Lords legacy. The new staff was not used to repair the broken laws and now we have the Falls eating away at the foundation of the Law of Time. If there is to be a new future (I think there will not be, the Land is doomed) for the Land it will not be found with artifacts of the old Lords. Besides the only people who could provide the information if they had it would be the Masters and they do not appear to be very cooperative... Linden has the white gold (until she turns it over to TC) and the SoL, she sure as hell does not need the Earthpower endowed Damelon's Codpiece (complete with runes describing just why he was called "Giant friend" before the Unhomed appeared in the land..)

Damelon had a Door - that's all he rated.

Yeah, but that was one kick-ass door!!

Before he was called "Giantfriend" and before he was even called "High Lord" he was known as "Lord Extreme-Cave-Makeover Damelon"

:D

(I'm hoping that our European members know about the Extreme Makeover Home Edition TV show that plays here in the States)
