Morality conundrum

Post by Worm of Despite »

Okay. You wake up, and everyone thinks you're God--literally. They start bowing to you; attractive women (and/or men) throw themselves at you; dogs do all the tricks you ask them to. Everyone pleads for you to take all the stuff they own. You walk into Circuit City and they give you a plasma TV, etc. You drive down the road, right past the car dealership; you think the FBI's tailing you, because there's five black cars in your rearview mirror; no, it's just the car dealership; they want to give you five STS Cadillacs!

So, do you live like this, or do you say to the masses, "Stop! I'm just a normal Joe!" Well, I think you all know what my answer is. But in all seriousness. Let's suppose this suddenly happens to you TOMORROW. Honestly, would you feel bad about it and make an effort to change this new social norm that does nothing but serve you, or would you take full advantage? Or something else?

Are you serious? What do you think the WOI is for?

I would accept it.

Not me. The LAST thing I want is a bunch of idiots following me around trying to give me stuff.

And it hurts to have men and/or women thrown at you.

And Cadillacs are BUTT UGLY.

Besides which, People who are laying palm branches in your path on Sunday could well be hammering you to a cross on Friday!

Nope--I'm content to be myself, let somebody else have all the power and glory.

(Of course I *am* a democrat, so it isn't abnormal that I would feel this way.)

I'd rather have a glass of beer with true affection than a 100 year old bottle of wine from a toady or a butt kisser.

Er, well, it's all subjective, yes. I mean, if you don't like what I included (Cadillacs, worship, sex with no strings attached, etc.), just fill in the blanks with something you would want.

Heh heh....I want self respect, friends who love me for myself, and freedom to go where I wish without being assaulted by crowds of idiots--all of which would be impossible in the scenario you have provided.

Sex without strings?

Doesn't sound like much fun to me. Without love, sex is (I assume) basically just an exchange of body fluids.)

I was mostly being a smart aleck in my response--but what I said about what I want is true.

;)

I like your thread. It's an interesting topic.

Ha! You're far more virtuous than I! ;) I'm personally not adverse to copious amounts of sex and/or luxury vehicles, but, yeah, it's kind of fantastical. In the real world, I'm simply a guy who, at the most, would like a nice little lakehouse (that's pretty much guaranteed) and a steady, work-at-home job as a writer (not-so-guaranteed).

:LOLS:

Hmm, I'm not keen on the specifics of your example, but I don't think I'd have much problem with the concept. Being god wouldn't bother me at all. ;)

Although, as Fist says, Cho raises a very good point. Still, here is one of my all time favourite quotes, which I'm pretty sure Fist likes as well. ;)
Perspective - Use it or Lose it. If you turned to this page, you're forgetting that what is going on around you is not reality. Think about that. Remember where you came from, where you're going, and why you created the mess you got yourself into in the first place. You're going to die a horrible death, remember. It's all good training, and you'll enjoy it more if you keep the facts in mind. Take your dying with some seriousness, however. Laughing on your way to your execution is not generally understood by less-advanced life forms, and they'll call you crazy.--R.Bach

So do I. And I'm very fond of the first two as well.

Somehow, I knew you'd like that one. (Of course, I know you like Illusions, so it wasn't that much of a leap. ;) )

I'm pretty sure I would run for my life. I would fill the back of my Jeep with as many blankets, nonperishable food items, bottled water, and camping equiptment as I could and I would take off for the furthest and most remote place I could find with four wheel drive.

Oh, and books . I would take as many books as I could, too.

It would, of course, be something else if you were granted the God-like powers to go along with the God-like worship. Then I might come out of hiding periodically to do a healing raid at a local hospital and then return to wilderness safety. 8)

Being a strong advocate of carnal embrace, I must say I'd do it constantly. Then again, doing it constantly might become tiring (I think); I'd probably just end up doing it sporadically--whenever the impulse hits me. Then again, the impulse hits me every damn day. Oh, bah.

Yeah, this is really my biggest concern :)

LOL- so true. I often think that if there actually was a second coming of Christ (which, as you all know, I don't believe is going to happen), he would probably be locked up in a mental ward somewhere. Do you have any idea how many psych patients there are who think they are the messiah returned? Couldn't you just see it:

"But I really am Jesus, my child..."
"Sure you are, buddy. Now here's your thorazine."

BTW- no offense intended to any Christians out there by this post- I've just spent too many years around mentally ill patients. I think it must be rubbing off......... ;)

(Edit: Damn, I've actually posted in the two threads below as well, Morality and Convictions, but this damn glitch is preventing them from showing up. They're there though. ;) )
