Wow! Day of the Triffids (incredibly scary movie, btw...), Downbelow Station and Cities in Flight are great books! You've reminded me to look into Hamilton and Baxter as well...I also like Bear's Moving Mars which, for some odd reason, didn't make my list.
fall far and well Pilots!

Every sci-fi book I've read is on that list - I've only read Night's Dawn and the Gap :P (unless... does Otherland count? I tend to think of it more as fantasy). Anyway, what I'm saying is, I haven't read much sci-fi, and I probably should look into some of the series you and danlo have listed.

:) Some of my favourites on this list too. Ian M. Banks and Farenheit amongst others.

But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

Full of the heavens and time.
