New Administrator (April Fools Joke 2005)
Hey all. Just a heads up so you all know.
I received a letter from SRD's webmaster informing me that something had to be done about the unprofessional way that the Watch has gone about dealing with spoilers. Apparently since the Watch is considered to be the official message board on SRD's website, it is expected to be under control, and people should not be complaining to the author about these kinds of problems. It was also said that Kevin's Watch has become too much of a clique with all the older members running things. It was suggested that a new person should be given control in the Watch to help keep order.
So, it was strongly suggested that we should make Insanity Falls an administrator. Apparently Insanity Falls has shown that he cares about the integrity and security of SRD's work and would protect it. The webmaster also said that if we did not make Insanity Falls an admin, he might not be able to keep the Watch as SRD's official message board.
Now, I don't want to be the one to step on anyone's toes. If we want KW to continue being associated with SRD's website, then I can't think of anything else I can do except to just agree and make IF an admin. Now, I know many of you have disagreed with IF in the past, but please try to have some understanding and don't give him a hard time. Thanks.-jay

What? Are you serious?
No thanks Jay, I'm perfectly happy with just you, Alynna and Vain. All three of you are great admins. And you weren't forced upon us. But if you expect me to bow down or ask any favours off some random guy.
No offense to Insanity Falls himself, I don't know you, but I won't lie when I say I'm very uncomfortable with this.
Oh! And what? We don't? For crying out loud, we all do! In that case, can I be an admin Jay? Perhaps the several hundred others who love SRD's works can be made admins as well? Danlo, Turiya, Furls, Avatar, dAN, TOM, Matrixman, Creator the list could go on.

Now I don't mean to sound too harsh, but I'd rather the Watch lose it's offical status than be blackmailed like this. And many people already agree with me. This is wrong. Now, I don't want to be the one to step on anyone's toes. Re: New Administrator
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by 'unprofessional'. If third parties are complaining to SRD about spoilers on this site, I can see why that annoys him — it's a waste of his valuable time — but I don't understand why you should be held responsible. There's no law against spoilers, and you don't have the power to tell people whom they can and cannot complain to.kevinswatch wrote:Hey all. Just a heads up so you all know.

Having spent four years as sysop of a fairly large chat-&-message board back in the days of dialup BBSes, I feel qualified to say that you're doing an excellent job. I don't have anything to say about Insanity Falls one way or the other, but it seems a bit thick to me that somebody else — not even SRD himself, just his webmaster — can come waltzing in here and demand that you give up control of your own site to a person of his choosing. If you lose your status as the official SRD website, that won't bother me a bit. If you hand your authority over to an administrator who wants to censor the board to another webmaster's standards, that will bother me a great deal.
But as I say, I'm not sure exactly what the problem is, so maybe the proposed solution would be less onerous than I fear. It is of course your decision. I just want you to know that in any argument between you and SRD's webmaster, you have my unqualified support.
For whatever that's worth.

Without the Quest, our lives will be wasted.
And mine Jay. I don't care if this site loses it's offical standing. I want you to be head Admin. The place you deserve. You created this site, whoever is made admin should be by your choice alone.you have my unqualified support.
i have no doubt in saying that most if not all members will support you Jay. I don't want anyone in charge of this forum other than you. And to be blackmailed is sickening.

Yeah, just in case it wasn't clear from my previous, admittedly ambiguous post, I just want to add mine as well.Variol Farseer wrote:...I just want you to know that in any argument between you and SRD's webmaster, you have my unqualified support.

Well said VF. I feel the same way as both Darth and yourself. Similarly, no offence to IF, I've never conversed with him here, but you and Darth have pretty much covered the important points. Your site...Your Choice.

I’m relatively new here…but what the heck. Jay, you do a fine job, and for what it’s worth you have my full support also.
I really don’t like the idea that someone can push their way into a position of such power, on someone else’s site, in such an underhanded way. So I think that this shouldn't happen, and if the Watch stops being official as a result, well, so be it.
As for cliquiness…well, the older members know each other; I guess that could be perceived as being cliquey. But even in my short tenure I’ve seen newcomers become mods; and personally I’ve never met a friendlier crowd.

Yeah, you can't beat a site where people you don't know send you books in the mail.Gart wrote:I’m relatively new here…but what the heck. Jay, you do a fine job, and for what it’s worth you have my full support also.

I thought you were a ripe grape
a cabernet sauvignon
a bottle in the cellar
the kind you keep for a really long time

Agreed, I've been sent post a few times... and given post out as well... i love this site, and don't want it changed... regardless of the "unprofessional way that the Watch has dealt with spoilers". I think this site runs excellently. And don't take any crap from this webmaster Jay.drew wrote:Yeah, you can't beat a site where people you don't know send you books in the mail.Gart wrote:I’m relatively new here…but what the heck. Hopefully your request will be turned down man.
I'm not sure though if you're saying that you used to have the power to do so, but have since (recently?) lost it, but regardless, you're a great admin too.
I don't think that the "official" status is worth the pain I think this is going to cause. The Watch wasn't always "official" was it?
In the end though, it's up to Jay. And that's the way it should remain in the future too!
